Word around these streets (to name a few of these streets: Fox News St., PopCrunch Ave, and The Mix Blvd. ) is that Kelly Clarkson will release a Clive Davis-friendly pop album in 2008. For those of you who missed the drama, Kelly Clarkson recently released My December, the dark, heavily rock influenced album, which isn’t as radio appealing than her megahit 2004 album, Breakaway. SonyBMG head, Clive Davis who wanted another pop hit, faught against the Clarkson-penned album.
If these reports are true, it is most likely a compromise between Davis and Clarkson. She got to release an album her way, now she has to please her label. A “win, win” situation, right? Of course not, if it was, why would I be writing this? Kelly Clarkson may have lost some of her younger, mall zombie fans after releasing My December, but she has gained a mature, life-long audience. Anyone who purchased and liked My December will definitely go out and buy any future Kelly Clarkson album. But if she aims to please her label and releases heaps of albums full of “Since You Been Gone”’s, Clarkson will soon be in and out of jail/rehab/lesbian relationships and featured in those “Where Are They Now?” tv specials.
Kelly did the right thing by releasing My December and if she has to switch between serious Kelly to pop Kelly to keep her label heads happy, then, I guess that isn’t the worst thing in the world, right?

No, it’s not the worst thing in the world, but, it’s not the best thing either. Unfortunetly, I don’t think Kelly has a choice in the matter. She has a contract with RCA, (hopefully not for much longer) and if she didn’t make ammends with Clive, he would’ve blackballed her more than he already has. He wanted her cd to fail, because he had nothing to do with it. Now, with all his crap, she’s forced to an apology, and to make the cd “HE” wants. He doesn’t care about her credibility as an artist.
I wasn’t a big fan of “Breakaway” but, I really like this new one.
I hope kelly does a pop album in 2008. She has to do one similar to Breakaway, because of the lack of success of My December.
