Subcribe to our FREE email list to receive daily emails keeping you up to date on every single post made that day. Also, once you subscribe you’re email address is now eligible to win any of the contests here at PMA! Make sure you’re subscribed — click here! [What it means to subscribe]

2. Once you know you’re subscribed and ready to go, leave a comment with your name and email address (in the provided fields) and tell me about your Lollapalooza experience. If you didn’t go, tell me why not.

Lack of Cash, Location, Transportation, etc.
The Threadless gift card would be an awesome prize because I have gotten a few shirts from their site and I would love that t-shirt! Thanks!

  2. I didn’t go to Lollapalooza this year cause I had to work to keep my ass in college, but this year’s my last in college so I (hopefully) will be able to go next year!

  3. i did not go because im a:
poor high school student and living wayyyy south in texas

  4. Nescio

Do you know how much it costs to go to Lollapalooza? I sure don’t.

Generally, I assume that any event that requires me to put in serious– or even mild– logistical planning is beyond my ability to attend. The theory goes as thus:

If an event requires traveling in order to attend, and that traveling is beyond the local public transportation system, I would have to actively seek out some sort of method of movement. This requires the proper motivation to do research on buses, flights, car rentals, taxis, or other methods of reaching the event. Here, we are presented with a catch-22:

    * I divert my attention from my employment to perform this research. As a result, my performance slips. I receive less compensation from work. I now have the requisite information to get to the event, but lack the fiscal resources.
    * I disregard the research, focusing on my employment. As a result, my performance improves. I receive more compensation from work. I now have the fiscal resources to get to the event, but lack the requisite information.

As you can see, in either situation, I am left holding precisely one-half of the magical equation that allows me to enjoy an event on the scale of Lollapalooza. Such a quandary leaves me disappointed and deprived, a shell of my former self.

My contributions to society decrease, dragging down my local economy. Thanks to a ripple effect, neighboring regions begin collapsing as a result of local failures, and soon the country’s economic crisis is worsened. Banks close, the stock market tanks, people clamor for the heads of the wealthy, and soon the country is in perpetual turmoil, all because of my limited supply of motivation.

Do you know what boosts motivation? T-shirts from Threadless.

  5. Liz

I didn’t go ’cause there wasn’t any shows anywhere near me. :o (

The plan was set. My girlfriend and I would leave Toronto on the Friday, at 6AM in the morning, and then arrive in Chicago at 2PM or so, check into the hotel, and go out for a nice quiet lunch before the Friday lineup.

That was the plan at least…

We were cruising along the I-69 and were getting a bit peckish, so we pulled off in Imlay City, Michigan. We stop at a local McDonalds, eat and get back in the car.

We pull out of the parking lot and get nailed by a car speeding out of the parking lot opposite. Guy didn’t even look to see where the fuck he was going, just went right out into the road and t-boned my passenger side door.

My first though was whether my girlfriend was okay. I’m a little rattled at this point, but I’m basically aware of what just happened and what’s going on. Emily is okay, she had a broken wrist, but nothing life threatening. I get out, to go talk to the guy, but he’s still sitting in his car. I go over, see if he’s okay, and he’s not moving. He’s responive, but he’s not moving. I call 911, and talk to the guy, try to calm him down. At this point, he’s telling me that he can’t move or feel his legs. He says he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. /facepalm.

The ambulance arrives, takes the guy away, and we go to the hospital also, to get my girlfriend’s wrist patched up. I call CAA, and they call AAA and arrange for a tow truck and a mechanic to look at the extent of the damage.

Long story short, car wasn’t drivable and had to be written off, and we didn’t make it to Lollapalooza.

We ended up with 2 useless weekend passes, a write-off car and a broken wrist. A tee-shirt would be a nice addition to that list. :)

    Sincerely,
    Graham

  14. Trond Kvig Andreassen

    I live in Norway.

  15. Jared Bidlow

    (the answer is D)

  16. Jared Bidlow

    I didn’t go b/c…
    A. I’m broke
    B. I live in Pennsylvania
    C. I would have went to Coachella instead anyway, but I didn’t
    D. All of the above

  17. Grant

I couldn’t go because I has lacking funds for gas and the tickets. I had just bought tickets to see TV on the radio and Steel Train play. I hope I made a good choice.
I would have really liked to go, but alas I could not.
I plan on going next year. I’m already saving.

  18. Becca

i’ve been subscribed! and i love the fact i won’t miss any posts C:

  19. Madison Wood

I didn’t go to Lollapalooza because the East Coast needed me.

  20. lukas Mary

hey! i’ve never been to lollapalooza. but i’ve been to bonnaroo many times. my dad actually lives about 3 miles away from the bonnaroo field. he says that sometimes when a really loud band is playing at night, you can hear them from his house

  21. Pernille

I was camping in the middle of Norway. Floating down streams, hiking mountains, having a Viking Party. Oh don’t worry, I got credit card debt from this. Still broke as the rest .

  22. Pernille

I was camping in the middle of Norway. Floating down streams, hiking mountains, having a Viking Party.

  23. erin

the reason i did not attend lollapalooza are two fold and (surprise!) economic:
    1. i don’t make that much dough at my shitty retail job
    2a. gas is expensive
    2b. so are plane tickets

were those factors not absolutely deciding factors, i would most definitely have gone.

  24. rey

I didn’t go to Lollapalooza because I’m livin Turkey :)

  25. Kyle Hughes

I didn’t go cause I’m too far away and don’t have the funds :/
I’d love to go the first year I can, though.

  26. Adam Bryant

I didn’t get to go but my friend let me know how amazingly lame I was for missing it by sending me constant texts throughout the day about allllll the amazing bands I didn’t get to see live. It was fun! I think a side effect was that it made me write really poorly constructed run on sentences. Sad :(

  27. Karen

Just so ya know…I AM a faithful reader. =] I just now realized that I always leave my yahoo e-mail instead of the one I subscribe with.

I didn’t go because I don’t remember ever hearing about him/her/them/it. If you mentioned him/her/them/it in a/some blog post(s) –is that getting annoying yet? lol–, I probably ignored it because I pick and choose what I check out on your site.

    Yay for contests!

  28. stargirl

I’m totally different than all these other subscribers…

    I’m a broke..college student…from TORONTO! ;)

  29. wow, I thought I was special, being a broke college student not living in the Chicago area. apparently, that’s a trend with the music blogging community. I’ve always wanted to go to Lollapalooza…

just for the record, you are in my RSS feed. I am a faithful reader, I swear.

    I really want this: http://www.threadless.com/product/548/Shakespeare_Hates_Your_Emo_Poems

  30. I didn’t get to go to Lollapalooza because I’m spending all my money on film school. I did watch it online at AT&T and it was almost as if I were there. I almost felt like the sweat was hitting my face from watching the different bands and rocking out to DJ Momjeans.

  31. Edward

I didn’t go to Lolla because I went to pitchfork instead.

I may have seen fewer bands, but I also paid less money. Plus, Animal Collective….

  32. Suzanne

I didn’t have the money this year, but planning for next year.

  33. I went to Lollapalooza and it was amazing, but not quite as amazing as the 2007 festival (daft punk, muse) last year. My highlights were definitely Saul Williams, meeting Lupe Fiasco (my hero), and Spank Rock or The Cool Kids.

  34. Sarah

I’ve been subscribed through Google Reader for a while but officially subscribed now. :)

    Didn’t go ’cause I was a whole ocean away, and I’d have been about 2000 miles away if I was at home anyway. ;_;

  35. Kasumi

Since January I’ve been subscribed to PMA through Google Reader but a couple minutes ago I officially subscribed just in case. I didn’t go to Lollapalooza because I’m a brokeass college student !

  36. sm

I was going to go with my boyfriend one year, but then he broke up with me and skipped town. A few months later, he emailed me to ask for a ride up to Chicago (six hours). By then, I was so pissed off that I didn’t even want to go anymore. I regretted it though so the next year I was going to go on an empowered solo trip, but couldn’t afford it. Someday! Savin up my pennies.

  37. Rebecca

I’m also subscribed through google reader — good enough? :-)

Didn’t go to Lollapalooza. I really wanted to go to Austin City Limits last weekend, but predictably, paying off my school loans took precedence. Damn.

  38. Josh

I didn’t go cause i couldn’t afford it, but a few years ago I worked in the parking lot at the venue Lolla came to in Houston and I got to meet former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri when he was drunk and trying to hook up with some chick and asked us to get him a cab to a local hotel. So I radioed in for a cab. I also met local DJ Outlaw Dave, who referred to himself as “Outlaw Dave” and not just Dave….he looked and sounded as badass and intimidating as his name implies.

  39. Gabriel

Lollapalooza was amazing, i watched one my favorite bands even, Radiohead, they did a kick-ass job, I plan on going next year!

  40. I didn’t go to Lolla because I live on the wrong side of the planet… Sometimes it gets a bit lonely to live across the globe from where all the fun is going on, but then again you can’t have it all right? I would have loved to go though, Lollapalooza is truly a remarkable and wonderful thing!

  41. Xander

Not enough money this year — college does drain the money supply. But next year! It is in the stars.

  42. Sam

I needed to go to Lollapalooza because of Cat Power, Santogold, and Wilco, but I didn’t. Long story short, I was planning on going with a friend, they bailed, I didn’t have a place to stay, and I went to a film festival instead. Hmmm. I should have gone to Lollapalooza alone.

  43. Alex

I unfortunately could not attend this year because the person I met to get tickets from was shady as all hell. Hopefully next year I’ll remember to get my tickets a head of time.

  44. Ryan

I didn’t get to go this year. So sad. I had to shoot a movie for school!

  45. I have been subscribed through Google Reader for a bit now, so hopefully that is sufficient.

Lolla ‘08 was amazing. It was my first and I saw just about everyone I wanted to see (sans Gnarls and Mark Ronson). Highlights had to be CSS’s schizophrenic dance moves, Girl Talks afternoon party, Ting Ting getting rowdy with the drums and Chromeo’s hilariously danceable set. All the t-shirts I wanted were sold out, so…..

My full experience in detail is here: boutthatjl.blogspot.com.

  46. Garrett

Lolla was awesome. My first time seeing my favorite band, Radiohead, and some other great shows.

But the best was at the airport after the show was over. While checking in for my flight home I meet bloc party, and later Saul Williams. I also had a discussion with John Norris from mtv. It was the most surreal airport experience ever, it didn’t even bother me that my flight was delayed almost 10 hours.

  47. Bach

Why subscribe? I check PMA at least a couple times daily. It would be redundant.

  48. David

I’m poor and live too far away.

  49. Randi Baron

I didn’t go to Lollapalooza because I’m a college student and I’m extremely broke. Also I live in Long Island so I had no way of getting there. I’m an avid Threadless buyer though – 17 of the 24 tshirts I own are from that site. Plus 2 sweatshirts. So that giftcard would really help me in the poor department.

  50. I didn’t go because I’m poor
