I’ve been called out…

Sean says:

Luis, I’m very surprised you haven’t posted anything about the new Britney tracks that have leaked. If you didn’t know, breatheheavy.com received an 8 minute mix of songs from Britney’s new album “Circus.” They are each pretty amazing, IMO, and I don’t know if you have something against posting clips of songs, but these are definitely worthy of a mention on the blog. The production is ridiculous, and may be causing more “water cooler” chatter than Kanye, seeing as the pre-order sales of the deluxe version of her album has already boosted her to #4 on the iTunes top albums list.

If you don’t post, it’s okay, but i encourage you to check it out, and a least share your opinion, which is definitely valued.

Sean,

Ive been called out... aside

I have listened to BH’s 8 minute sampler as well as Amazon.com’s

30 second clips of Bitney’s whole album. I refrained from posting because I was naively certain that Britney’s album was going to leak today — chances are that it’s not.

I agree, the production is ridiculous — just like Blackout. From the little that I’ve heard from Circus, it sounds like a Blackout 2, only this time Britney sounds a lot more confident and relies a lot less on the autotune. Out of the bunch, I’m really, really liking “Circus,” but “If You Seek Amy” is definitely a stand out.

UPDATE: Someone sent me the 5-track Circus sampler containing “Womanizer,” “Circus,” “Out From Under,” “Kill The Lights,” and “If You Seek Amy,” trusting that I wouldn’t leak them. I won’t but I will say that “If You Seek Amy” will definitely be an album highlight.

Circus hits the American market on December 2nd — but hits select international markets (South Africa, New Zealand, etc) on November 28th, so an early leak is eminent.

PS: Kill The Lights gets better and better after every listen!

UPDATE #2: By inbox is quickly filling up with people asking for the sampler. I can’t send it to one person without sharing it with everyone — and I know that will eventually end in a leak. I’m NOT going to be responible with something as high profile as that. So do not email me asking for the sampler, thank you!

I agree maybe Britney didn’t deserve those 3 VMA awards for Piece of Me, but those are her first VMA awards after creating some pretty legendary videos, if not legendary defintely better than Piece of Me was, for instance Toxic defintely should of won. I think this was kinda make up for that. I think MTV realizes they kinda screwed her out of something that she can usualy do pretty good at.

Brent, why do you come on here making a comment and acting like you were such a big Britney fan and then lyou say you wish the Killers, MGMT, and other bands were at the top of the charts, first off those bands are “ALTERNATIVE” and pop music is short for POPULAR MUSIC so whatever is in at the moment and the type of music Britney does will always fit into that category.

  3. Sweet deal! britnay is tha best!
  4. I wanted to close comments on this post a while ago, but damn — this has been one of the most interesting reads PMA has EVER offered, no?

This is quality shit here. Where’s our Pulitzer?

I’m over the britney bash, i lost sight of what i wanted to express. I know alot of artists from Rihanna, to Britney, to Chris Brown, all get by on flash, dance, and pop. They put on great performances for people, and whether or not their vocals are strong, people are entertained and that’s fine, I love Wall to Wall, Toxic is a great song, and Please don’t stop the music was awesome. I just have a problem when instead of promoting better music to the general public like Ray Lamontagne, My Morning Jacket, Kings of Leon, The Decemberists, Guster, Keane, and yes the Killers. We constantly get MTV trying to shove down our throats what they already know makes them Million of dollars, recycled Pop stars. (New Kids on the Block) I give Britney credit for getting her ish back together, the girl can entertain and that’s a great skill, hopefully she’s gotten past the awards show thing two years ago But no human being should be denied something they are good at and makes them happy. Maybe I was a bit harsh on the vocal ability. I’m more just disappointed with the way the music scene is in general. They shouldn’t be handing award to a girl who may have deserved it in the past, but definitely was done for a public image this time around

The Killers hopefully will impress some people with this new album. If you haven’t listened to the Killers, check out, Sweet Talk, Under the Gun, Tranquilize, Somebody Told Me, and All These Things That I’ve Done. There is no denying their greatness.

P.S. Luis I love this blog, the black kids remix was on point, and so was the Keane CSS, and the T-minus 321. Its why i continually check your blog first. peace!

I think Britney haters are the funnyist creatures on the planet. There so passionate about what they do… slag her off. But the fact of the matter is they must love her in some way because they write about her all the time!!!
The fact of the matter is no matter what anyone say’s about her (bad or good) it will never effect her sucess. She is hear to stay and she has an amazing power to make people talk about her… somthing Christina wishes she had. The VMA’S and her singing live have nothing to do with this post so why are people even bringing it up?

And compairing Rihanna to Britney? Really?

  7. Zachary

PS Brent, the Killers are total pop music just like Britney, they’re not a real band, get over yourself

  8. anon!

brent, chill the eff out. her music is catchy and that’s why people like it. and please stop acting like you have good taste in music just because you like the killers. seriously.

  9. Hell, I just preordered Circus myself. lol

  10. I ACTUALLY ALREADY PRE-ORDER THE ALBUM AT ITUNES.

  11. i think Brit brit deserves those awards.. I’m not her fan, but t think she did a great job on her last last album (blackout), ACTUALLY THAT WAS THE FIRST BRITNEY’S ALBUM I BOUGHT . I WASN’T REALLY HER FAN UNTIL I SAW HER ON TV SHAVING HER HEAD 2YEARS AGO.

  12. javi

BRITNEY rocks. and if u dont let like then get off this and suck it!

  13. Zachary

    Brent,

That youtube video is pieced together. The sound guy leaked britney’s actually audio of her just singing along to her lip sync track so that it looks like she’s singing. She’s not singing full out, she’s just singing enough so it looks like she’s singing. If she actually tries to sing live she sounds the same as her CD. That’s her voice, it’s not all autotuned as you say. Sometimes she might be dubbed, but that’s very normal. Also if I go see her in concert I don’t care if she lip syncs because she’s putting on a huge show and dancing full out. It’s impossible to sound good when you’re that out of breath.
She’s no deep artist, but she makes the best pop music out there and there’s a time for all genres. And she did deserve those 3 VMA’s. If not for Piece of Me then for one of her other 20 videos. She’s never won before but she’s made her career from Videos and VMA performances. Here’s here singing live and sounding like Britney

I kinda like how this blog is void of Britney. I don’t think she deserved those awards, she should be more focused on getting custody of her kids, than making an album. She’s swagger jacking Rihanna anyway with her new sound. Kill the lights is like Disturbia 2.0.

Thanks for keeping the Brit posts to a minimum.

Luis, I appreciate the response to some of my comments, maybe the statements were a bit broad so let me clarify myself a bit further. I’m just tired of the general public eating up the bubble gum crap that comes out all the time. Maybe she wasn’t the first person to bring skankiness to pop music, but it sure helped push it along. Britney’s last album was the first full fledged auto-tuned out album for sure, but BELIEVE me every other album she has ever worked on she has had vocal help. There is NO denying that. I remember distinctly catching a show of her’s on HBO back in the day, when she was at the height of her popularity, and every single song that she danced to was lip synced. The only time she ever actually sang was when she was sitting at a piano and even then it wasn’t very good. She is just like Rihanna in that, production wise they can make them sound great, but if u were to ever sit down and have them sing acoustically it would be a NIGHTMARE. Now that doesn’t take away from the fact that songs like Toxic, and Umbrella are great pop songs. I just didn’t like the feeling i got when all of a sudden at the VMA’s britney wins all these awards. It’s not like the VMA’s are the grammys. But more of the youth watch that show for sure. And especially winning for the song Piece of Me, which never even crept close to the top of the charts, they may have nominated her, but i was under the impression that the there was only one specific award voted for by the fans to win. To me it was just a clear push to get her back into the public eye and away from the hair shaving crazy person image that had been created. And I’m sorry but i have to disagree with Blackout pushing any boundaries. If you want to look at anyone to start an electronic pop sound/movement it was JT and Timberlake’s Future Sexy Love Sound. I remember even seeing a picture of her buying the album before her’s came out.

  17. Um. Correct me if I’m wrong here.

    Okay.

She created the whole slutty 13 year old girl image

I’m assuming you’re talking about that school-girl out she wore in her first video? Slutty? Hardly. she was only showing our stomach area… I’ve seen ACTUAL 13 year olds look sluttier.

its progressed into crappy pop music like the Pussycat Dolls singing about wanting bigger ta-ta’s

Haha, I don’t think pop music was all holy and saint-like before britney. let’s thank madonna for that.

It’s ridiculous, the girl can’t sing without auto-tune, period.

She got by 4 albums with little use of it. The massive use of autotune in Blackout fit the whole futuristic robopop production.

Then she puts out one REALLY crappy album

Blackout is arguably her best album. The production was completely insane. Pop Music had never seen something like it. That’s what Britney is about. She’s not some Madonna knock-off. If anything, madonna went the Blackout route with her Hard Candy.
    The critics seemed to agree:
Observer: “Britney has delivered the best album of her career, raising the bar for modern pop music with an incendiary mix of Timbaland’s ‘Shock Value’ and her own back catalogue.”
The Onion’s A.V. Club: “Every song counts as markedly progressive and strange, from ‘Get Naked (I Got A Plan)’ (which sounds like intergalactic R&B filtered through The Cure’s “Pornography”) to ‘Freakshow,’ which gets by on little more than serpentine snaps, wub-wub bass, and Britney sounding synthetic and irresistibly at home”
Blender: “Spears’s fifth studio album is her most consistent, a seamlessly entertaining collection of bright, brash electropop. ”
Entertainment Weekly: “Poetry it’s not. Still, there is something delightfully escapist about Blackout, a perfectly serviceable dance album abundant in the kind of bouncy electro elements that buttressed her hottest hits. ”

MTV just decides to hand her 3 VMA’s out of NOWHERE, for Video of the Year nonetheless.

The VMAs are voted by the public. They didn’t release any stats for the actual winners, as per usual, but I did see the stats for the nominations. Britney’s votes were in the millions for “Piece of Me” — and that was just to nominate her. One thing Britney has been able to accomplish during the last 5 or 6 years is keep your core fanbase.

I would much rather see bands like The Killers, Shins, MGMT, and Fleet Foxes at the top of the charts, then this womanizer garbage.

I would too! But I assure you that Britney’s temporary stints at #1 didn’t hurt MGMT’s chances at being #1. lol. I doubt bands like Fleet Foxes or MGMT will ever go #1. The Killers sort of have a shot — but every time they release an album, an even bigger album is released! Sams Town was overshadowed by Evanescence’s Open Door and Day & Age will be overshadowed by Kanye’s (and possibly Ludacris too) 808’s & Heartbreak.

  18. john

Terrible. The worst thing about this is that nothing is real. Or talented.
Her posters, her album covers, all airbrushed.
    Her singing, autotuned.

Check this link, and you’ll see that even Uncle Kracker can sing with the help of Auto-Tune.

  19. brent

Um. Correct me if I’m wrong here. But I don’t think Britney Spears deserves our attention anymore, period! She created the whole slutty 13 year old girl image, and its progressed into crappy pop music like the Pussycat Dolls singing about wanting bigger ta-ta’s. It’s ridiculous, the girl can’t sing without auto-tune, period. She used to be a pretty face that could get by with her dancing. Then she puts out one REALLY crappy album and MTV just decides to hand her 3 VMA’s out of NOWHERE, for Video of the Year nonetheless. Why you ask? Because MTV makes more money when Britney the public doesn’t think she is crazy. They hand her a few awards and everyones like ohhh wow the real britneys back. I for one will applaud her for getting out of the loony bin and getting her life back together, but please, don’t make anymore records. I would much rather see bands like The Killers, Shins, MGMT, and Fleet Foxes at the top of the charts, then this womanizer garbage.

  20. Casey

Wonderful job, Luis! Love your blog more and more. I respect you for not leaking the tracks. I know how easy it is to upload some songs onto the internet. Especially when something this big would get you lots of hits.

  21. Josh

    Lucky bastard! lol

Thank you for not leaking though — we can all wait to buy the album when it comes out on December 2nd

  22. Jane

omg i cant be more excited about this album! i cant wait for 12/2!!

  23. Michael

Seriously, I’m super jealous but thank god the stuff is good!

Thanks for pointing me to Breathe Heavy’s 8 minute mix! If You Seek Amy sounds fucking great!

  24. Freddie

AAh! too bad youre an honest guy… because if you weren’t, we’d have the damn songs already! lol

  25. anon!

i’m totally jealous you get a preview of those tracks! that said, i’m quite happy with ‘kill the lights’ and even more excited to hear that Circus will likely going in the same direction as Blackout. Can’t wait!
