Arctic Monkeys B-Sides & Rarities Project – What If You Were Right The First Time?

Arctic Monkeys B Sides & Rarities Project What If You Were Right The First Time? arctic monkeys b sides rarities project
Luis: It’s baaaaack

Hello you Pretty Much Amazing addicts. It’s Will from the less glamorous-and-famous little blog known as We All Want Someone To Shout For. I want to personally apologize for the delay on the Arctic Monkeys b-sides and rarities project. I have been so busy working 3 different part time jobs, as well as maintaining my own site and some sense of a personal life. How about we get back into the swing of things? I owe Luis an apology for how overdue this post is. However, I am finally back and ready to get this bad boy kicking again!

The timing is actually appropriate. The Arctic’s 3rd album Humbug is set to come out in August. The album seems to see the boys sounding more mature and different from their previous efforts.

The b-side that I decided to share with you guys today is “What If You Were Right The First Time?” from their fantastic Brianstorm EP. The song fits perfectly with Brianstorm with their darker, more aggressive sound. There is something about Matt Helders drumming that gets me every time in this song. At one part the band actually sounds sorta….metal. It is one of the Arctic Monkeys best songs in my opinion. (It is my 10th most listened to song on itunes!) This is the Arctic Monkeys darker and harder than ever! Listen to “What IF You Were Right The First Time?” here Continue reading →

Arctic Monkeys B-Sides & Rarities Project – The Lovers (Rod McKuen Cover)

Arctic Monkeys B Sides & Rarities Project The Lovers (Rod McKuen Cover) arctic monkeys b sides rarities project

The Arctic Monkeys B-Side & Rarities Project was inspired by Matthew Perpetua’s Pop Songs 07-08 project, and was first introduced on November 19, 2007 and it ended there. On March 21, 2009, Pretty Much Amazing reached out to a person with a lot more Arctic Monkey credentials, the man who named his music blog after a string of words Alex Turner wrote while try to figure out “Who The Fuck Are The Arctic Monkeys”: Will Oliver from We All Want Someone To Shout For.

The goal of this series of posts is fairly simple, I am going to write a post about all of the Arctic Monkeys B-Sides, non-album tracks, bootlegs and other rarities. I have no clue how long this will take, or even if I will finish it, but it should be a fun ride. You might be curious as to why I’d select the Arctic Monkeys as the subject of such scrutiny. To be frank, the Arctic Monkeys are one of the only bands of which I can honestly say that I saw flounder and flourish from beginning to present. I feel that I can relate to their music, along with everyone else that’s young and living their life in all its blundering glory.

Arctic Monkeys – Choo Choo

Before Favourite Worst Nightmare was even a thought, Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys got their name out with great live performances and memorable demo’s. One of the songs that got left off of their debut album and any EP/Single release is the fan favorite “Choo Choo.” Continue reading →

Lily Allen – It’s Not Me, It’s You Album Review

Lily Allen Its Not Me, Its You Album Review album reviews reviews 2

[rating:69/100]

Lily Allen is the ideal 21st century pop star to me. She is a pop star that has been able to break the mainstream, while also becoming an indie darling. With the help of the Internet and a talent for writing irresistible songs, her debut album “Alright, Still” was a success on the UK charts and with critics. You could also say that she is responsible for the direction that many female artists such as Kate Nash have taken in regards to pop with harsh romance based lyrics. What makes Lily Allen so special is the joyous feeling that her music brings. No matter what type of mood I am in, listening to her rip other men a new one puts a smile on my face. That is quite a  talent Lily! Thankfully after almost 3 years, Allen has finally released her long awaited sophomore album “It’s Not Me, It’s You”, and there is plenty to be pleased about. Minty Fresh Beats – Jay-Z vs Radiohead – Jaydiohead Review

Minty Fresh Beats Jay Z vs Radiohead Jaydiohead Review album reviews reviews 2

[rating:78/100]

What do Radiohead and Jay-Z have in common? Well besides being critically acclaimed artists in their respective genres, not all that much. Well Max Tannone also known as Minty Fresh Beats saw something in both of their catalogues that motivated him to step up and create his own mash-up project. This isn’t the first time that we have seen Jay-Z used for a remix project. I think we can all remember the wonderful “Grey Album” where respected producer Danger Mouse mashed up the Beatles alongside Hova, and the results were astonishing. Is Minty Fresh Beats Jaydiohead project a successful mash-up of Jay-Z and Radiohead, or is another boring mash-up project put forth just to get 15 minutes of fame?

Unfortunately for me I never received a copy of the A Cross The Universe film. Whoever was supposed to send me the DVD decided not to send it. This was a bit disappointing. However, I had high hopes that the accompanying live album for A Cross The Universe would not disappoint me. While it wasn’t a complete failure, it wasn’t anything to rave about (pun intended). Before we dive into the album lets discuss the concept of the live album itself. Live albums are a tricky task. Artists have nowhere to hide any imperfections, and have the pressure of delivering fan favorites perfectly. Even though the live crowd may not notice any flaws with all the adrenaline that comes with a live show, a listener at home will notice any imperfections

Most bands cannot recreate the magic of their music live. It takes a really special band to take songs to the next level. Even better, it takes a truly special band to take the songs to the next level. Some artists may do this by altering songs around adding to their live impact, without taking anything away from the songs. Justice does this so effortlessly live it is scary to hear the monster that is a Justice live performance.

Coldplay – Prospekt’s March EP Review

New Coldplay - Prospekts March / Poppyfields listening-booth

Looking back at 2008’s major releases, it is safe to say that British rockers Coldplay had one of the biggest albums of the year with “Viva La Vida.” The album has the most paid download sales of all time, and it generally received favorable reviews. They had one of the most memorable iPod commercials in recent memory that got everyone back aboard the Coldplay bandwagon once again. Coldplay were never strangers to success, but with “Viva La Vida” it became cool to like Coldplay once again. Well, as long as you haven’t seen the 40 Year Old Virgin!

After the great success of their 4th studio album “Viva La Vida” they decided to release an EP entitled “Prospekt’s March.” The release comes directly off the success of Viva La Vida, with the band hoping to carry the momentum just a little bit further. Continue reading →
