Best of 2008

It’s almost that time of year! The Year-End Lists Season! You know I love me my lists, it makes me feel oddly professional.

Pretty Much Amazing’s 212 Favorite Songs of 2008!

Lists I’m planning to release in December:
Best Albums of 2008
Best Songs of 2008
Best Covers of 2008
Best Remixes of 2008
Best Music Videos of 2008
Best Worst Songs of 200

I encourage all of Pretty Much Amazing’s readers to EMAIL ME (or leave a comment below) any suggestions they might have on any/all categories. PMA is nothing without its readers and I think something like chronicling the best music of 2008 should be a group effort!

Hearting the blog by the way.

    *Beck – Modern Guilt
*Lloyd and Michael – Just as God Made Us
    * Mercury Rev – Snowflake Midnight
    *Foals – Antidotes
    *Crystal Castles – Crystal Castles

I say there also be a section for “Best New Artist” for artists that have relseased their first album this year.

  7. Wheel

ooh fun. Best albums: Tha Carter III, The Cool (was that 08?), The Renaissance, Modern Guilt, Smokey Rolls Down…, et al.
Best remix: DFA remix of Paper Planes, Radioclit remix of Hood N*gga with Santogold and MIA.
Song: Gettin Up of Q-tip’s album deserves much more love. A Milli was the song of the summer. I loved Teenage Love Affair by Alicia Keys. Can’t think of anymore right now which is whack.
Worst! Anything by Soulja boy except Crank that. T-Pain’s track about the mansion in wisconsin was terrible. Katy Perry has laughably little talent, but I wasn’t laughing after hearing that boooolshit on the air for the millionth time.

  8. Albums:
Emiliana Torrini – Me And Armini
    Portishead – Third
    Thievery Corporation – Radio Retaliation
Kings Of Leon – Only By The Night
TV on the Radio – Dear Science lkm

  9. Drew

An album that has been remarkably under-represented on all lists this year (especially considering it won the Mercury Prize) is Elbow’s “The Seldom-Seen Kid”. The critical acclaim is there and the album is easily the best thing I’ve heard all year… yet I haven’t seen it on one year-end list so far. At least give it a spin, see if it might make your list!

  10. Aparna

Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” & “Voilet Hill” should make the list..also Katy Perry’s “I kissed a girl” & “Hot n Cold”

  11. Aparna

Few tracks from Simple plan were exceptionally good. I’m talking about “When I’m Gone”, “Save You”, “No Love”

  12. Vito

I think you gotta put some of Kanye’s new songs on there, theyre great, and Commons new cd BEAST! and yeah i agree with that other guy soulja boy sucks

  13. Amie

Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes for BEST VIDEO

  14. Michael

I too wholeheartedly feel that Andrew Bird deserves a spot on most best-of lists, but alas he did not release an album this year, Grayson. “Noble Beast” is still 2 months away…

But I agree, Sam Roberts is a buried treasure. I haven’t heard much of his latest, but 2006’s “Chemical City” was monolithic.

Can’t wait for all those PMA lists!! Especially curious about the Covers and Worsts. You should include a Worst Albums list, and stuff it with The Killers, Britney Spears, Guns N Roses, Kanye West, and others. Sorry, that sounded elitist. Just a coincidence that they’re all mainstream artists. I’ve enjoyed all those artists (minus Britney) in the past, but man the past few weeks of major releases from these musicians have been fucking brutal

  15. Dav-id

Lady gaga should defiantly be somewhere there, shes took over with electro pop
Santogold and Diplo album needs some love too.

  16. Grayson

I really think that bands like “Sam Roberts Band”, “Andrew Bird”, “Ratatat” and “Gnarls Barkley” should have a place on the best albums list. I dont know if you would consider these guys “mainstream” but I think Sam Robert’s should get some coverage on this site. If you have never heard of him, i strongly recommend checking out some of his tunes, very cool canadian rock and roller.

Soulja boy for worst album. What that man did to hip hop can never be forgiven.

  17. sdf

the kook’s cover of mgmt, vampire weekend’s cover of fleetwood mac for best covers
i agree with the lady gaga. the new akon is great too

  18. Clare

Anything FOB/Folie A Deux should be in a list somewhere!

Also… Coldplay/Jay-Z, The Kooks for their cover of MGMT, New Beyoncé, Fall Out Boy for their cover of Mr. West (maybe give Pete Wentz an award for naming his kid Mowgli. Poor sod.)

    PMA. You’re friggin’ awesome.

    :-D

  19. jock la plonk

Mike. Are you like 5 or something? That mash-up shit’s been lame for like a kazillion years. And as for the black kids w/ lil wayne. If i were Lil Wayne I’d get my homies to shoot the perp of this mix. It’s not cool dude. It’s kind of cack. Jock. xx.

  20. Ryan

lady gaga should definitely be on there as one of the best albums of the year.

  21. j

if we are talking remixes (and we are because I am stating so) – the womanizer remix by the teenagers and the twelve kickmix remix of the black kids as Mike said are easily two of the best.

  22. soulja boy should never be on a best of list ever in the history of man. only the worst songs of the year list.
hopefully that is what the guy above me means.

  23. Trent

oh put new kids on the block single song on there with neyo it is really good also soulja boy birdwalk and justin timberlake magic and metro station 17 forever and chamillionaire ft lil wayne rock star and lady gaga poker face and flo rida ft tpain whine slow.

  24. i think the Kanye West/MGMT/Justice-Electric Feel remix is great…and also the Twelves Kickmix Remix of the Black Kids, Not Gonna Teach Him with Lil’ Wayne is SICK
