The cover of Elite Gymnastics’ “Real Friends” EP is two eighties babes in bright, high-waisted swimsuits, intrepidly facing rolling surf, coolly gripping unadorned boards. Their music seems like a logical reflection of this summery, beachy image: it’s warm, tuneful chillwave. The EP’s title track is woven around a flutelike arpeggiator, head-nodding drum machine, and vocals that sound like they’re coming up to your apartment through an intercom from your friend with all the picnic fixins down on the street. “Is This On Me?” with its luxurious faux-string loops over club beats, throbbing synth, and pitch-shifted vocals, sounds at times like a lost track from Washed Out’s “Life of Leisure” with a little extra baritone pontification: “Is this on me? Am I guilty?”

Elite Gymnastics really do nothing that hasn’t been done before, but the summer-jam potential of their music cannot be denied. Give them a listen.
