Back in 2007, Prince Ballard posted up a handful of "duets" on his blog. He was the type of guy that would blend Lyn Collins with OutKast, or Easy E with Dyke and the Blazers. You know, that guy. After skimming through a buffet of MP3s, no other "duet" came off smoother or more timely than his Jay-Z/Dap-Kings edit.
"99 Problems" will always be remembered as one of the highest points in 00's Jay-Z and Hip-Hop, and toning down Rick Rubin's rap rock aesthetic has never sounded like a good idea. But somehow, on Prince Ballard's "Royal Edit," the somewhat disruptive, smooth jazz vibe comes completely welcome.
