British chanteuse Kate Nash is channeling Karen O on this one -– which is fine, because Ms. O is a mainstay whose talent and originality is just begging to be channeled. Nash has the voice for this; the instrumentals, namely that cutting guitar, are more than appropriate; the simple and sexy cooed lyrics, never really straying from the song’s title, work perfectly.
The issue lies here –- Karen O might be able to get away with the occasional wail or yelp or unintelligible shout, but Nash, for lack of a better word, can’t. Perhaps the key word is “occasional.” Nash’s sighs of “I just love you more than anything” are fantastic, but the effortless growth of the instrumentals to a plateau that could be an endlessly shoutable, awesome chorus, but unfortunately sounds like Nash doing an impression of a bat, is less fantastic. “I Just Love You More” has all the makings of a great song, but it could use a little more time in the oven, a little more development, before it reaches its full potential. Kate Nash' upcoming album is yet to be titled, which gives us the slight possibility that "I Just Love You More" will have more time come into its own. However, Kate Nash is making the song available for free download.
