Air France is a Swedish band who actually prefer to record in that form. Their latest EP entitled “No Way Down” is really a fantastic piece.

Also speaking of Grizzly Bear, their “Friend EP” functions under a lot of the categories because its lengthy, it has new material, reworked old material, covers, and other bands’ covers of their songs.

Awesome post. I really think that EPs might be the future. They preserve the idea that a collection of songs can be a single cohesive work of art, but without demanding the length of time that an LP does. It’s pretty much the perfect compromise for our attention deficient modern music audience.

Passion Pit’s Chunk of Change is a fantastic debut EP.

Deerhunter have 2 “We Have 4 Great Songs” EPs…Fluorescent Grey and the recently released Rainwater Cassette Exchange. Electric Soft Parade’s The Human Body EP is without a doubt my favorite release from them.

EP’s for me are more like a surprise, with LP’s I tend to know their when the release is and wait for it building my expectations but EP’s harldy disappoint because it’s like extra. I consider Sawdust to be a long B-Sides EP though they did record a few new songs specifically for that release. I always really like Between Albums EP’s from the Arctic Monkeys.

I really enjoy EPs. I find them more listenable then many albums; they are less likely to have filler material.

Excellent summary of EP types/reasons for going about music through that medium- I think EPs are actually a logical step in the current era for getting back to the LP, actually. Because of the rise of buying/finding music digitally, the public had been shifting towards single tracks (which was the case in certain times in the past), which has in turn breathed some new life into the ‘bite size’ EP format.
