COACHELLA 2012

Coachella is back and with a vengeance. It's got a killer lineup and it's fucking happening twice. We wouldn't blame you if you weren't sure how to go about deciding who to see and how to tackle the crowds –– this is our guide to Coachella Weekend 2's first day. Grab a water bottle or two (or three or four) and wear some sensible shoes. Memorize this time table and face the crowd. (Click the arrows to navigate through our itinerary.)

Wolf Gang :: 1:00-1:40 @ Gobi
We're starting out with the shimmering youthful exuberance of Max McElligot, who records his symphonic synth pop as Wold Gang. Think "Kids"-era MGMT but slightly more British. Can't think of a better way to kick things off.

Kendrick Lamar :: 2:40-3:25 @ Coachella Stage
We're sacrificing seeing Yuck at 3:25 (@ Outdoor Theatre) to do this, but after watching Kendrick Lamar steal Club Paradise up from under Drake and A$AP Rocky, we told ourselves we had see Lamar do his thing at an outdoor fest. Note: We are also closing the doors on prickly lofi goth rocker EMA (whose live show is also really somethin') and rowdy indie popsters GIVERS.

Neon Indian :: 4:25-5:10 @ Outdoor Theatre
Alan Palomo's slinky chillwave seems like a perfect match for California's desert (though Friday's forecasted weather looks like a bummer). Neon Indian's live show may not be the most thrilling set we'll see today, but it'll give us an opportunity to get reacquainted with a water bottle. (Always important at a desert festival.)

GIRLS :: 5:40-6:30 @ Outdoor Theatre
After Neon Indian, San Francisco's GIRLS will take the Outdoor Theatre. We wouldn't miss it for the world; this band has quickly become one of our favorites of the last few years.

WU LYF :: 7:00-7:45 @ Gobi
If we rush, we can make WU LYF's set after GIRLS'. In doing so we're closing the door on Arctic Monkeys, M. Ward and the reunited Pulp. You can probably imagine this was the first truly and deeply difficult decision we had to make, but missing WU LYF's energetic and visceral live act was never an option.

The Rapture :: 8:55-9:45 @ Mojave
We're going to The Rapture over Mazzy Star, Frank Ocean and Atari Teenage Riot for obvious reasons: their shows kick major ass. But also, because after their set, M83 will take the stage. (Headliners The Black Keys are also playing around this time, if you're interested.)

M83 :: 10:15-11:05 @ Mojave
Coachella Friday is all about M83. Period. We're taking buckets with us to carry our minds/souls in on our way back to the hotel.

The Horrors :: 12:00 @ Gobi
In our post-M83 experiencing daze, we may stumble into The Horros' midnight, night-closing set. We're sure The Horrors' sonically dense and rich goth pop never sounded better.
