PAWS-Cokefloat

Spotlight: Paws - Cokefloat! [Fat Cat]

Scottish trio Paws has already been tagged as a rising artist in the UK scene already with a couple of rough home-recorded EP's on their own Cath Records. Now touring alongside big names like Japandroids and Yuck, Paws releases the debut full-length Cokefloat! in primetime. With some dressed-up versions of older demos as well as some new cuts, Paws has cleaned up and faded out some of the fuzz. Yet, Cokefloat! is very much still a straightforward punk record that manages to give a nod to the giants of '90s alt-rock while still cooking up a storm of their own. In a sea of garage punk revival, Paws stands out by pushing out a well-rounded, extremely personal album (check out the tormenting "Get Bent") captured in a blink of a guitar thrash at a blazing BPM.

Noteworthy:

Freelance Whales - Diluvia [Frenchkiss]

Freelance-Whales-Diluvia

Three years after the beloved Weathervanes and a couple of stray singles, the adorable Freelance Whales return with "a diverse and wonderfully unpretentious album that proves the band hasn’t drifted far from their modest roots as New York City buskers." Check out our full review here.

Lord Huron - Lonesome Dreams [IAMSOUND]

LORD-HURON

Here's something to help tide you over until the next Fleet Foxes record. Lonesome Dreams is L.A.-based Lord Huron's debut full-length that mixes some ethereal instrumentation with full-bodied vocals and comforting acoustic progressions.

Mellowhype - Numbers [Odd Future]

MellowHype

With some help from Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt, Hodgy Beats and LeftBrain return with some quick-tongued tracks on the latest release from OFWGKTA.

Metz - Metz [Sub Pop]

METZ

Canada churns out another heavy rocker with Toronto trio Metz, whose unrelenting self-titled debut has no shortage of hair-raising guitar shrills and running drum beats that's all grime and no apologies.

Tame Impala - Lonerism [Modular]

Tame-Impala

The followup to 2010's acclaimed Innerspeaker, Lonerism is another oeuvre of psychedelic goodness that elevates the senses with a secret recipe that Tame Impala seems to have mastered.

Ty Segall - Twins [Drag City]

Ty-Segall-Twins

This week seems to be full of thrash-happy releases. His second full-length of the year after the welcomed collaboration with White Fence, Ty Segall tops off 2012 with Twins, which pushes boundaries even further with crazier instrumentation and looser songwriting.
