Why are you all copying extracts from interviews and passing them off as your opinions? ‘they’re darker and more mature’ jesus. You dont know what youre listening too. Listen to the song before you read what some writer who doesnt know A from Bm has to say about it. Idiots. Oh, and 6 out of 10? Are you fucking HIGH!?

The band had grown up so much that its barely overwhelming, lyrically and musicaly its an obvious improvement and its quite shocking that theyd rather to go to some completely new sound much darker and deep instead of staying on the safe side with another wpsiatwim or fwn which was what almost all the fans were expecting.

Theres much more intrigue in this album and its certainly not for any fan whos into “indie” or anything just for the moment.
I honestly think Arctic Monkeys are easily one of the best bands of this decade aswell as Alex Turner being one of the best lyricist of our generation.

Or at least thats my opinion.

I liked it after the first listen and it is still growing on me now.

It’s a much more mature and dark sound than heard previously but I like it.

As Turner said it’s a strange choice for a single but if that is what encapsulates the whole album then surely it’s a good choice.

This is completely catchy in an unexpected way – it kinda sneaks up on you

Sounds far more grownup, gives me lots of hope for the cd

Hopefully there is some more pub anthems on the rest of the cd

it just lacks a bit of the immediacy their old stuff had
it doesnt grab you on first listen…but it coudl be a grower

[...] “Humbug” só chega às lojas em formato físico e digital lá para o dia 25 de Agosto, mas já hoje, fruto do descuido ou da intenção deliberada de alguém, o primeiro single do novo álbum dos Arctic Monkeys foi disponibilizado na internet. “Crying Lightning” de seu nome, a primeira amostra de Humbug não é, à primeira escuta, um exemplar de fino recorte como os Monkeys nos habituaram nos dois primeiros discos, crescendo ainda assim com as múltiplas audições. De facto, como diz o ditado, não se deve julgar o livro pela capa, pois “Brianstorm”, primeiro single de “Favourite Worst Nightmare” também não soou muito bem à primeira, naquele que viria a ser um perfeito segundo álbum para os rapazes de Sheffield. Soando talvez mais a The Last Shadow Puppets do que a Arctic Monkeys, o som de “Crying Lightning” acaba por ser mais soturno e ligeiramente mais pesado, sinal claro da produção de Josh Homme, ainda que sejam de esperar sonoridades mais pesadas ou violentas e mesmo alguns avanços de sons mais electrónicos, com o dedo de James Ford, dos Simian Mobile Disco e baterista nos The Last Shadow Puppets. Quanto às letras, só uma audição mais demorada me permitirá analisar devidamente, mas a voz de Alex Turner faz-me lembrar cada vez mais a de Scott Walker, vá-se lá saber porquê. Entretanto, e enquanto não chega a obra de arte final, podem ir ouvindo “Crying Lightning” no blog Pretty Much Amazing. [...]

I think 6/10 is lowballing it, but I did expect more from Josh Homme and the Arctics.
