Last we heard from A$AP Rocky he and Theophilus London were struggling to clear a Motown sample; now he’s riding a beat by the dude who produced “Ni**as in Paris” – that’d be the aptly named Hit Boy – on the first single from his long-awaited debut (yes) record LongLiveA$AP, “Goldie.” The beat’s fantastically maximalist – pan flute! wandering bass! quick-panning record scratching! – and we’re digging that pitchshifted vocal sample, but A$AP, with his lightning-fast, electric verses, is obviously the star presence here, and he clearly knows it: “yes, I’m the shit.” The record will reportedly drop in July – stay tuned.
