After hearing the first new tracks (we like “Modern Art”) from the Black Lips upcoming Arabia Mountain, you could sense the slightly polished production from none other than British pop enthusiast Mark Ronson, though it continues to preserve straight up garage rock.
The Atlanta outfit’s’ newest jam, “New Direction,” houses the classic jangly guitar riffs they’re known for, it’s brief, to the point, and thoroughly head bumping. The song is also, probably thanks to Ronson, less distorted and clearer to hear frontman Jared Swiley’s raspy vocals.
The band also enlisted Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundtt during the recording process, which certainly adds character as well. Arabia Mountain drops June 7th on Vice, download “New Direction” courtesy of Rolling Stone.
