Earlier last month, Bon Iver released their twice self-titled album, Bon Iver, Bon Iver, to universal praise that earned the album some premature conferment by some as Album of The Year. The band, lead by the infallible Justin Vernon, has just released one of the album’s highlights, “Holocene,” as a 7” single and the label is also giving away the song for free. Good news for the minority out there that has held out on the album.
The physical edition will include a previously released cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Come Talk To Me,” a folksy, spacious ballad that maintains the ambiance of the original, but still very much sounds like Bon Iver. It seems Vernon has a fondness for covering classics from the 90s; if you haven’t heard his version of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” do so here.
