We hope you haven’t slept on Charli XCX’s massive, hyper-catchy goth-pop gem “Nuclear Seasons,” which sees the London teenager beating about 95% of today’s top-40 starlets at their own game. No shame if you haven’t, but make sure you listen to the original before you check out Balam Acab’s reworking – comparing the two makes both very young musicians’ talent all the more evident.
Balam Acab somehow makes “Nuclear Seasons” sound like an Animal Collective song as performed underwater by a church choir – in its languid ambiance, it’s pretty far from the original’s club-ready vibe. We love especially what he does to the chorus, pitch-shifting Charli’s vocals just so. Check both out.
