[rating:74/100]
Chiddy Bang are making some serious noise thanks to their infectious tracks and their excellent use of our favorite songs. If you read this blog, you know that I love covers and remixes — and you will come to learn that new school sampling is my religion. However, I am still a strong proponent to originality in music; I like to hear new and exciting things, and Chiddy Bang fits the bill.

We last left Chiddy Bang tweaking out to some MGMT, and this time they’re back sampling the master-class new school sampler, Kid Cudi. We’ve all heard “Day N Nite” done a million which ways and I’m pretty damn tired of it. Chiddy Bang does a great job keeping “Day and Night” familiar while giving the song its own identity.

I think Chiddy Bang are absolutely great. This remix of Day & Night is awesome. Doesn’t beat their version of Kids, though. I wish they would come out with an actual album sometime! I’d buy it in a second.

Day n Nite, Shitty Bang sells out to make em look allright, they make these songs and love to jack big names, like mgmt and kid cudi lame, lame. This shit is weak, so weak i’m fallin right into a deep sleep.

Chiddybangdaillest April 16, 2009 at 11:30 pm

yo “Shitty Bang”… just wait for their next track… I think you might be surprised when you don’t hear them “jackin a big name”

and you are an idiot by the way. you don’t understand the art of sampling. and U MADDDDD because your shitty rhymes aren’t at where theirs are.
really though… weak and sleep? you have to be a little better than that.

Calling bullshit on this track. The new school sampling only feels really effective when it’s done with some creativity. The MGMT sampling worked cuz that song is from a completely different genre and was transformed into something else. This Day N’ Nite remix might as well be the same fucking beat. Lame.

Why is chiddybangdaillest speaking in 3rd person when its clearly them… Sad really. Well, sorry you can’t take criticism, taking one of the hottest singles that is already played out and putting mediocre lyrics over it with a couple pattern changes doesn’t really explain “sampling” too well.

These guys beats, and musical choices are what show their tallent. Sure not all the beats are original, so what? Being too critical. They’re raps are pretty creative, and cudi like (no more gansta rap get that shit outa here). I personally would watch this crew good stuff.

In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a different sound recording of a song.

oh yea, this is not chiddy bang. sorry, just a fan who can’t take criticism from someone with shitty music taste.

Chiddybangdaillest April 17, 2009 at 10:26 am

oh, and compare the two beats. you will find a lot more than just a few differences. all you see is the same and you let that distract you. personally, i don’t like how they use the same track names as the actual song, but you can’t let that blind you. if you ACTUALLY listen to the song, it is incredibly different. how about you give it a try and stop being mad because you didn’t think of it first

Kid Cudi thought of it first. Crookers remixed it best. Attacking my musical taste is understandable. You guys are mad. Pretending to be a fan is pathetic. You guys should try remixing a song a year after it comes out instead of two.

Hi. I’m the producer/beat maker for Chiddy Bang. I just saw this little comment battle and I wanted to set something straight.

Chidera (Our MC) wanted to freestyle over the beat to day n nite. We’re not “sampling” Day n Nite. We’re letting him freestyle over other people’s beats, like is commonly done on mixtapes – something which we our working on – among plenty of other songs with no “samples” at all.

We released this track so people could have a little taste of Chidera’s ability, and I added a very small amount of changes – a little piano here, a drum break there. It’s in no way completely our own.

Hopefully people will have patience and grace to just enjoy what we throw up from time to time – if you don’t like it, that’s your opinion, you are entitled to it.

Chiddybangdaillest, I don’t know who you are, I appreciate your support, but no, we are not doing anything fantastically original here, and we know it.

Shitty Bang, I don’t know who you are either, but thanks for sharing your opinion. If you’d like to further the dialogue on “jacking big names”, please email me at xaphoonjones@gmail.com

Thanks everyone. Enjoy. And more to come.

Seems like the best way to get rappers to get blog buzz is to sample a huge hipster song. Look at the remix of the reeling by passion pit, who the fuck is this GOV guy? Same with Chiddy Bang

their worst track so far but still better than a lot of shit.

Complaining about sampling, really? Have you listened to, oh I don’t know, ANY mix tapes… ever? Like Xaphoon said, this isn’t sampling, it’s throwing a vocal track down over top of another song. This is a perfectly normal and accepted practice.

Song is sick regardless. More of a re-work than a remix. I love the blends though. Hot shit!
