Cover Tuesday 15: is Back! Best Covers of Summer 2008 covers
Unless you can pull an awesome cover off!

I’ve read the emails and the comments — and even some freaky death threats. So, by popular demand, Cover Tuesday is back. Hopefully this will give you something to look forward to on Tuesdays again.

This summer has really been a good one for covers. I figured I’d so a mini-recap of the great new covers we all added (if not, do so now!) to our collections over the summer months. I’m taking about our two favorite MGMT songs being covered by some unlikely acts. Coldplay trying out dance pop. Vampire Weekend covering the only Fleetwood Mac song I like. Rihanna’s ode to Madonna. Madonna’s ode to ABBA. And Kinks going “violet.”

I think you meant to say the Kooks and not the Kinks :)

thank you for not posting a “umbrella” cover. No one can cover that song well. Once they hit the “ella ella” part, it goes downhill…

I beg to differ, have you heard Manic Street Preachers’ cover of Umbrella? It’s incredible, they rock it up perfectly, it could almost be their song.

Is Daniel Rossen’s cover of Jojo’s Too Little, Too Late old news? I still love it. Way to give a girly pop song some musical artistry.

Umm.. I think the Coldplay cover of violet hill was actually done by the Kooks….. not the kinks. Thats what is on other sites, and it sounds very much like the kooks.

I don’t like Rihanna’s cover of Vogue. She tried to make it too fast-paced. The original is much smoother and flows easily, Rihanna sounds too strained and rushed, not to mention over bouncy. She needs to just leave it to the Queen.
