One of our most-liked breakthrough rap artists last year, Mississippi self made rapper/producer Big K.R.I.T. came to the spotlight with a very formidable Krit Wuz Here, with tunes as provocative and endearing as “Hometown Hero” and “Neva Go Back.” A little while ago the rapper announced that he was working on a new mixtape, and tantalized us with tracks like the memory lane ballad “Dreamin”, and most recently “Time Machine”.
Now, K.R.I.T. has released Return Of 4Eva as a free download, and attached this statement: “I am proud to present “Return Of 4Eva” to all my supporters, I took the past year to work on this project. I reached out to some of my favorite artists I felt represented what this album was about. Ludacris, Bun B, David Banner, Chamillionaire, Big Sant, Joi and Raheem Devaughn all helped me to make my vision of this album complete. I hope you all love it.” The beats here are indicative of K.R.I.T.’s native background, heavy in jazz and country swagga, K.R.I.T.’s smooth vocal stylings the center of it all.
At over twenty songs long, he samples themes from Outkast, provides rowdy Southern anthems (“Shake It,” “Time Machine”) bluesy rock n roll numbers (“King’s Blues”), and luxurious laid back ditties (“Lions And Lambs,” “Highs And Lows”) all of which are familiar to K.R.I.T.’s signature m.o. In the short time that we’ve known him K.R.I.T. has exposed all of himself to us in true artistic expression, and he continues to do forth on Return Of 4Eva. Alongside the grimy selection of beats available, it’s assuredly worth a listen.
