Download: Dan Deacon Mashup Album f/ Psy, Grimes, Beach House, Skrillex, etc

Girl Talk’s got some unexpected competition in the mashup arena from Dan Deacon, who’s just released Wish Book Volume 1, a five-song remix/mashup album (we’d say EP, but each song is longer than five minutes, and most hit around seven), for free listening and download.

We’re obsessed with it with one listen to opening track “Gangrimes Style,” which is exactly what it sounds like – Psy’s iconic meme hit “Gangnam Style” figures over the sexy bass pulse from Grimes‘ “Oblivion” with a little added help from Beach House’s “Myth” and some sharp, cutting electronic effects from Skrillex.

Don’t think he keeps it all in the indie sphere though – dude drops in everyone from Lil Wayne to James Brown over the course of the EP. The end product is like Deacon’s own music – dance-floor ready, sure, but also kind of sublime – but with plenty of those “OH SHIT” moments you get from Girl Talk’s most genius juxtapositions (Nicki Minaj and Tune-Yards, y’all!!!). Check it out.

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
