Ah Drake. After all these months, you have yet to impress me. Or so I say.
Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” has been haunting me all summer long (with this heat, it sure as hell ain’t over), and I have been enjoying it. I still haven’t warmed up to his mixtape just yet, nor do I think I will, but when his So Far Gone EP drops next week (same day as Kid Cudi… whoa), I will be sure to give it a good hard listen (or four).
This new track, “Fear,” will be included in his EP (which will include 5 songs from his 18-track mixtape of the same name) and is one of two new tracks that will appear on it. I’ll just say it now, this track is immense.
The production is smooth, credit that to 50 Cent and Jim Jones producer DJ Khalil. Lyrically, Drake prides himself in keeping his music honest and real. “Fear” touches base with, not only, how he is dealing with fame and money, but how his friends and family are taking it as well. Groundbreaking, right?
Whatever this kid lacks in originality, (still sounds just like Weezy on his autotuned hook) he makes up with in charisma. And, for now, that’s fine. We have Kanye and Cudi for originality and where has that got us? Autotune tearjerk-ers and Ratatat-produced, marijuana-induced philosophical slow jams.
I think I’d rather follow Drake into the dark the familiar, well-lit road to superstardom. For now anyway. Listen to “Fear” below:

ya, ive never been a huge fan of drake either, but i enjoy this track. i live in toronto too so i am surrounded by all the hype and bombarded with his songs on the radio. i will say this though, he rides the hype well.
this track is sick. i agree i had to warm up to the dude too but he just makes some gooood tunes. this beat is fucking spot on. i dig.
808′s aside (even though it was a pretty great pop album, Kanye is a great rapper and I definitely wouldn’t put him in the same sentence as Kid Cudi.
Well too bad, Kanye West produced Cudi’s album, so you will see their names in the same sentence a lot
actually kanye barely produced any of cudi’s album and used a large amount of little-known producers. cudi also wrote some tracks for kanye on his 808
HOLY SHIT this is incredible
Kanye and Cudi are more orginal then Drake and that leads you to better music. Dreak is just as superficial as Lil Wayne.
im not a huge fan of lil wayne, but i will say that he is very creative and passionate about his music. he’s one of the few rappers that lives to rap, rather than rap to live and make a living. drake is just as into perfecting his style and work, and this track proves it.
wud def agree with that
Boring!
but wasn’t this beat produced by DJ Khalid?
also about Kid Cudi and Kanye
Kid Cudi was featured on Kanye’s Tracks for the 808 Album, i think that both Kanye nd Kid Cudi both share i same fate of heart (also known as style) and 808 did become a perfect album too for them to share the similarities of heartbrakes. I dont know much produces that were made by kanye for Kid Cudi becuase i see more work bieng worked on with other rappers such as Wale
