Anyone with a pair of ears and a handful of Vampire Weekend mp3s knows that Ezra Koenig is a big Paul Simon fan. Last September we learned that the Vampire Weekend frontman would be covering Simon’s 1972 classic “Papa Hoba” from his eponymous record, his second apart from his longtime colleague Art Garfunkel, and now it’s finally surfaced. The song will be featured on the upcoming film Ceremony, starring Uma Thurman and directed by Max Winkler.
Though Koenig has always used fragment’s of Simon’s falsetto in his recordings, here the similarity is absolutely uncanny in this lovely acoustic rendition, both vocally and instrumentally. A wonderful representation of the past and present. Download the tune below:
