Which one would you bang? (click to make BIG)

Gifted are a two-piece musical experiment formed by vocalist PJo and producer Saum G representing the fantastic music scene of Chicago. Their first single “Music” is a curious blend of hip-hop and electro — and at some points you hear some classical strings and piano.

Something else that strikes me as interesting is the way PJo sings the song. At the beginning of the track, he’s whispering, but that doesn’t last long — he builds up the song into a pumped-up crescendo. Very nice. Also, the start-stop trend PJo has going is reminiscent of rap, but it still holds that sing-song R&B vibe throughout. They even get their Kanye on and sorta jump on the vocoder for a couple of seconds. Very tastefully done. PMA approved.

Shout out to Newborn Rodeo for tip! Grab “Music” after the jump. [display_podcast]

Gifted ftw! “Music” is a great track.

Best line: “You can top these dollars, you can pop these bottles, you can fuck these models, but you don’t got music”.

I’ve been listening to P-JO rap since he stated. Progression is his philosophy. The man won’t settle and just keeps on Grinding every day. His vocals over Saum G’s beats is the perfect example of that progression. Together they are forging ahead into something truly new and exciting.

Keep GrindinG

These boys are going to one of the best school in the country and in addition to maintaining good grades they spend so much energy and time on their music; and it shows.

At first when I met PJo I thought this was a hobby but here he is today relentlessly working on what he’s passionate about. It’s only a matter of time before his hard work pays off.

P Jo has been droppin sick beats since the day I met him. His flow is amazing and he can literally drop a track by just looking at something. Saum and P Jo together is combination for success. Just be ready for their tour coming soon. They put on a great show. Keep it coming boys good work….

This is a great song; very refreshing to the ears. It proves that there is still hope in experimentation instead of cheap “me-too” reproductions that clog the radio waves these days. I’d definately purchase an album.

I love the electronic elements used in this and that they aren’t the traditional “electronic” sounds added to most hip-hop albums—they have such a minimal, trance-influenced sound. Looking forward to more from these guys.

This song is just one example of the fresh sound that PJo has in everything he does… he thinks a lot about the tracks he comes out with and I’m excited for more.
