Gorillaz‘ “Superfast Jellyfish”, the latest single from their fine new album, Plastic Beach features verses from De La Soul and Gruff Rhys, and is an all around great song. One that can be remembered with the DARE‘s and Dirty Harry‘s, although not quite at the level of Clint Eastwood or Feel Good Inc.
The always-good Don Diablo tackles the song with his usual fervor and the end results strip the song from its retro, hook-laden backtrack and gives the track a wired, sugar-rush synth job that quite literally shimmers. It’s always a pleasant surprise when DJs compliment great tracks with their remixes and not spin them on their head and bulk them up with a hundred pounds of cheesy.
