So for the most part, I’ve avoided Veckatimest in its leaked form, waiting to hear the album in its intended entirety. But, like the rest of the music world, I have heard nothing but great things. “Two Weeks,” to me, is probably one of the best songs of the year so far, if not the best. “While You Wait For The Others” is also excellent in its live form. And on top of all of the buzz, Yellow House continues to grow on me. Needless to say, I am pumped for this album.

“Cheerleader” is now becoming one of Veckatimest‘s most blogged-about tracks, and with good reason. It features lead singer Ed Droste working his vocals beautifully into an up-and-down drum beat, with light guitars, horns, and even a choir in the background chiming in. Grizzly Bear’s production is only getting better, as their songs are consistently layered to create a harmonic, psychedelic experience for your ears that you’ll want to go through a few times. No lyric or melody is as particularly catchy or memorable as anything on “Two Weeks”- but this is just fantastic stuff to listen to and take in. In the context of the full album, I’m sure it will be an even better experience for listeners, but even as a stand-alone track, “Cheerleader” is a winner.
