Jack White’s New Band: The Dead Weather

Jack Whites New Band: The Dead Weather listen

[rating:5/10]
Yet another Jack White side project, and yet another solid song comes out of it.

“Hang You From The Heavens” is your typical, fuzzed-out, jammin’ Jack White, and his great new bandmates help him out with this song. Alison Mosshart of the Kills, is the lead singer; Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age plays guitar; and Jack Lawrence, from Mr. White’s other band, the Raconteurs, is the bassist. White actually plays the drums with The Dead Weather, but he’s clearly helped out Mosshart with the vocals, which sound very Stripes-y…almost too much so.

The song is a good one, but nothing special and tiring towards the end. I quite enjoy it, but it’s not nearly as catchy as any of The White Stripes’ greatest tunes, and it sounds a little too much like more of the same from White and friends.

What do you guys think of “Hang You From The Heavens,’ and does this new band excite you?

  1. This sounds boring. don’t get me wrong. Stuff like Albert Hammond Jr’s solo career and The Raconteurs are good, but guys from legendary bands such as The Strokes and The White Stripes should focus on their main bands…

    average song.

I don’t know how you intended to rate a band based on one song and one b-side cover, but as far as rash, impulsive, judgements go, yours is one.

    • Ahh but I’m NOT rating the band, AR. I am only rating the song. This is a track review, not a band preview. However, this being the first we’ve heard of The Dead Weather, it’s appropriate to start thinking about what this band is ultimately going to sound like. I’m not trying to be rash or impulsive at all, just rating the song…don’t be hatin’.
