Here’s an old Lady Gaga track from an EP that dates three years back, but here’s the catch: at the time, she wasn’t Lady Gaga. No, she was Stefani, and she crafted a great song that shows off a side of her that we don’t normally see on the pop charts.

With “Red And Blue,” Stefani does far from tell us to “Just Dance,” instead crooning a soulful ballad over a steady piano beat. The song is poppy, joyous, and uplifting. Far from streamlined pop music, this is a bit more raw and stripped down. It almost sounds like lightweight punk music, with Stefani (or is it Lady Gaga? This is so confusing!) singing emphatically, “I guess that I could forgive you, tonight.”

The song is not brilliant, and is not going to be stuck in my head all day, but it’s certainly worth a listen and a few spins. And it prompts the question: who IS Lady Gaga? What type of music does she really like to make? And what type of music does she make best? Clearly, she is more that just your typical “pop star”: she has some real versatility, some real pipes, and a real knack for catchy tunes.

How do you guys like “Red and Blue”?

It’s hard not to love Lady GaGa. She’s got that specially something that I haven’t seen since Britney first started out. Sure, she’s not as cute as Brit… but man, she can SING and as for her dance-pop stuff? “Poker Face” is fucking EPIC. :)

I dunno, when it comes to Lady GaGa, I guess I’m in the minority that ‘dont get it’. I’ll fall back on what another friend said upon seeing her – “This is a joke, right? I mean, I can see why it would be funny, but it just HAS to be a joke, right?”.

If people would do some research instead of listen to her music, like say, listen to some interviews and really hear her, they’d notice that she really does care about her art. That girl doesn’t make a dime, everything she earns goes to promoting her next single, or paying for her tour, etc. She doesn’t care about the money, she just loves doing what she does. I respect that. People need to look beyond her “shitty” music. She’s the most creative, most passionate, sweetest, most amazing person I’ve ever seen release an album. She really loves what she does, unlike most other artists out there. She’s a little weird, a little quirky, but her performance is her art. I can relate to that and I highly respect that.

damn, starstruck might be a little over the top about this… but I do respect lady gaga as an artist.

Sean, it seams that you and your friend are referring to Lady GaGa’s persona right? The crazy outfits and mannerism, etc? Because her music is no joke. Compared to most of the pop music out today, she really has a head start in the game.

If you are a lover of dance-pop music, then you should LOVE lady gaga’s music. get over the sunglasses, the hair, the clothes… leave that for the die hard fans to love. Don’t toss GaGa aside just because she wears some “cutting edge” stuff, or whatever.

@”People need to look beyond her “shitty” music.”
If someone’s art is shitty than I can not respect that person as an artist.

@”get over the sunglasses, the hair, the clothes… leave that for the die hard fans to love. Don’t toss GaGa aside just because she wears some “cutting edge” stuff, or whatever.”
Totally concur, it’s her branding thing. Like Nike via “Just Do It” or Oscar Mayer via “B-o-l-o-g-n-a.”

I’m with you Sean. I cannot understand why people like this artist? “Poker Face” reminds me of “Barbie Girl” and that’s not a good thing! I don’t know but whenever I hear her music, I think maybe I would like it if I were on coke or meth b/c those are the people I’ve noticed dancing to her stuff at the clubs. As for the Britney comparison, please!

lmao at the poker face to barbie girl analogy. Came out of nowhere.

But i have seen interviews with Gaga, and you could tell she’s into it. She really lives it. Other “pop” artists really seem manufactured by labels but when Gaga presents herself i see something different. I don’t know what exactly, so don’t ask me.

But Gaga to me has at least a brain…which is more than i can say for nearly every other pop star.

I hated Lady GaGa when i first heard poker face i was like wth is this but it’s grown on me so much her whole album is amazing the lyrics are so good (if u ignore the weird stuff you can’t understand) .. ah I have found myself going from hating her to loving her somewhat sluttyness (love game & i like it rough) to death, she is immensley talented and does deserve respect even if you don’t like her she’s 10x better than almost every one at the minute… but she does need to put some clothes on and actually I dont think she can sing that well but i will over look that lol

Lady Gaga’s music is okay, but I definitely like this music way better. This album is way better then “The Fame” & “The Fame Monster” together. (:
