Mick Boogie Presents… Adele: 1988

Just as and friends are finished riding off the hype around Viva La Hova, Big Mick locked onto the four-time GRAMMY nominated, revered songbird and her wonderful debut 19. I don’t know what goes on in that head of his, but he somehow came up with the idea that putting this soulful album to late-80′s hip-hop beats was going to work.

Probably what’s more surprising is that it does work. It works brilliantly.

If you’re unfamiliar with Adele’s music, think Amy Winehouse minus the drugs and paparazzi, and maybe add a little bit of a Rachel Yamagata/A Fine Frenzy vibe. Obviously, bringing Adele’s 19 to 1988 would be no easy feat. But somehow the Mick Boogie team came up with this masterpiece.

this is ridiculous.
they are butchering her songs.

messing with Viva La Vida was different, they were mashing it with Jay-Z. That was 2 geniuses collaborating… THIS is just crap

Yeah, I’m not sure how I feel about “Day Dreams.” It’s definitely a cool concept, though, and I’m willing to give it more of a try.

this is awesome stuff
i’ve been listening to this for 2 months almost nonstop. its absolutely amazing and i much prefer it to her original songs (not that they’re bad or anything).
also, i thought viva la hova was kind of shitty. i don’t see jay-z as a genius and i thought his voice jarred too much with the music

I see more hip-hop listeners enjoying this. Being a hip-hop listener myself, i LOVE it!
