In an inspired case of genre-bending, soul crooner Cee-Lo Green takes Kings of Leon’s southern-rock-nouveau “Radioactive” for a spin. Cee-Lo’s rendition is touchingly faithful: he even throws some Caleb Followill-esque yelp and drawl into his buttery R&B stylings, and that chorus is just as infinite and affecting. It’s the switching-up of the backing instruments that make the cover a success – replacing Kings of Leon’s driving bass and electric guitar with soulful piano and acoustic strumming lends the song a lovely old-timey edge.
Kings of Leon’s Come Around Sundown is out now. Cee-Lo Green’s The Lady Killer hits stores November 9.
