Glockenspiel-loving New York quintet Freelance Whales are back with their second single for Mountain Dew sponsored indie label Green Label Sound. “Day Off” is a strummy-guitar banger in the style of Cold War Kids, all big drums and road-weary lyrics. Frontman Judah Dadone sounds like a ghost in your house, his lilting voice produced just right. The band haven’t lost any of their characteristic glockenspiel, or their sense of rhythm — “Day Off” is undeniably melodic, driving, easy to get lost in, easy to let the melody carry you along. And it’s a lovely ride. Check it out.
