Remix aficionado and UK beatsmith Darren Williams a.k.a. Star Slinger has been certainly getting his name across to the public, whether he’s remixing the new track from Nicki Minaj or Broken Social Scene, or dropping a new EP. The electronic/hip-hop producer is at it again, claiming his newest collection of songs, Rogue Cho Pa EP, were just sitting around collecting dust. The six track EP features what we’ve come to expect from him: incomprehensible, chopped up, vocal fragments (most of which are sampled from promiscuous hip hop/r&b tracks), vivacious drum patterns, and a rowdy yet sensual bassline. Opener “Like I Do” is the most warm and fuzzy of the bunch, a cordial invitation to peruse among the motley crew of samples Rogue Cho Pa has to offer. “Hot Potato” and “Do It Myself” are soulful and funkadelic jams, with an illustrious bass that reminds you of Marvin Gaye, the latter including a steamy romp in the sack that’s as x-rated as Biggie’s “Fuck Me” from Ready To Die. Rogue Cho Pa is available to download for free here. Listen to the whole thing below:
