mastermind Damon Albarn took over Zane Lowe’s show on BBC Radio 1 yesterday and previewed 3 new Gorillaz demos that might make it to the next album. Damon has already said that the album is more than half finished, but now he has announced that the rest of the album might be recorded in Syria. On the subject, Damon said: “I’m going to Syria because I’ve got a real fascination with Arabic orchestral music, We’re going at the end of March for Gorillaz.”

He played a rough demo for  ‘Electric Shock’ which he described by saying: “It’s rough and not finished by any means, but hopefully people will enjoy it, I come back to a song a lot of times, but six months is the maximum, it’s hard to tell when a song’s finished.”

Two other Gorillaz demos were debuted during the time Damon Albarn spent as DJ. ‘Broken’  was played second and the third was ‘Stylo’ but it is being reported as ‘Binge’. You can download the demos below.

When I first listened to these demo’s I was quite dissapointed really but it’s only demo’s so hopefully he’ll give it a nice twist before he actually releases it on the upcoming album. Back when Dirty Harry was floating around as a demo called I Need A Gun I thought it blowed as well and now it’s my favourite Gorillaz track.

I feel the same way Mick (Rick, Mick, coincidence?). But knowing the Gorillaz, it’s bound to sound amazing. Especially with this whole Arabic thing they’re going for. Totally excited for that one.

Loving ‘Stylo/Binge’ brilliant zeitgeist sound! you know Gorillas will put a twist on these, there just instrumentals anyhow (apart from broken – my least fav of the 3) there’s plenty of scope for the hooks to be blended in, the Arabic theme is bound to influence these tracks! Looking forward to further developments!
