“Stand” and Deliver” is the a newly recorded cover No Doubt gave to all of the fans who bought tickets via the presale (and effectively giving Ticketmaster the finger). I was one of the sheeple that bought No Doubt tickets early, by the way. “Stand and Deliver” was recorded FOR Gossip Girl, because the mp3 came tagged with “From the television show Gossip Girl.” So make sure to catch No Doubt perform the Adam and the Ants cover on Gossip Girl on its season finale in May.
I heard this cover wasn’t very good. ALL LIES! It’s fantastic. It does sound like No Doubt are returning to their Orange County roots with “Stand and Deliver” — and maybe their entire new album, who knows. “Stand and Deliver” would fit perfectly in their self titled album. It also would not be out of place in Tragic Kingdom. This is a good look No Doubt. Though I still think going in the “It’s My Life” direction would be a bit more fun. Listen to “Stand and Deliver” after the jump.

Gotta disagree Luis – this doesn’t sound like they did when they were first breaking (in Orange County then) this kinda sounds like they’re all moms and dads recording a cover for cash (Orange County now). I guess they are returning to their roots… in a way…
Oh, dude, that’s totally what I meant.
damn. this is the second download that didnt work. limit was reached already.
They ruined one of my fave songs when I was a kid. Don’t get me wrong, I adore No Doubt, but this cover is just wrong.
Agreed! I do think this track is akin to their roots & that its a pretty good cover. The haters have become old & senile and reject any semblance of hope for veteran bands to recapture their old spirit.

It certainly has the feel of early Orange County No Doubt. They lost some of that punchy edge as bands tend to do, so this song has a good sound. Not bad.
haha – alright Luis. You win this time.
(off topic, but on topic) On the S&D post on my site someone left a comment today about Sugar Ray’s cover from a few years back… had completely forgotten about that one, went and listened to it–and I’ll be damned if it didn’t surprise me. A much better cover than No Doubt’s.
no doubt
Sugar Ray?! You’ve gotta be shitting me. They’re awful.
Anyway, I would’ve preferred new material than a cover, but I love the original and their reworking is quite nice. There were only a handful of tracks I liked off of Return of Saturn and Rock Steady, and I’d definitely say that this sounds like a return to their Tragic Kingdom/Beacon St. roots. Hopefully the new album is headed in the same direction…
I think the problem with No Doubt doing covers is that Gwen can’t stop being Gwen. She has a unique voice but there’s a real limit to her range. ‘It’s My Life’ was fun and all, but she ain’t Mark Hollis. It’s interesting the first time, but then you hear the original and it’s all over. Same problem here.
As always, thanks for sharing this track. It’s a decent track, but not a standout for me. Gwen’s delivery is, to borrow a recent Simon Cowell line, a bit Rocky Horror picture show. Still love Gwen & No Doubt and look forward to hearing more tastiness from them.
