As always, thanks for sharing this track. It’s a decent track, but not a standout for me. Gwen’s delivery is, to borrow a recent Simon Cowell line, a bit Rocky Horror picture show. Still love Gwen & No Doubt and look forward to hearing more tastiness from them.

I think the problem with No Doubt doing covers is that Gwen can’t stop being Gwen. She has a unique voice but there’s a real limit to her range. ‘It’s My Life’ was fun and all, but she ain’t Mark Hollis. It’s interesting the first time, but then you hear the original and it’s all over. Same problem here.

Sugar Ray?! You’ve gotta be shitting me. They’re awful.

Anyway, I would’ve preferred new material than a cover, but I love the original and their reworking is quite nice. There were only a handful of tracks I liked off of Return of Saturn and Rock Steady, and I’d definitely say that this sounds like a return to their Tragic Kingdom/Beacon St. roots. Hopefully the new album is headed in the same direction…

(off topic, but on topic) On the S&D post on my site someone left a comment today about Sugar Ray’s cover from a few years back… had completely forgotten about that one, went and listened to it–and I’ll be damned if it didn’t surprise me. A much better cover than No Doubt’s.

It certainly has the feel of early Orange County No Doubt. They lost some of that punchy edge as bands tend to do, so this song has a good sound. Not bad.

Agreed! I do think this track is akin to their roots & that its a pretty good cover. The haters have become old & senile and reject any semblance of hope for veteran bands to recapture their old spirit.

Gotta disagree Luis – this doesn’t sound like they did when they were first breaking (in Orange County then) this kinda sounds like they’re all moms and dads recording a cover for cash (Orange County now). I guess they are returning to their roots… in a way…
