New The Killers Spaceman (Day & Age Version) listen

I posted an mp3 rip of The Killers performing “Spaceman” on SNL a while back, but the final album version of the song has finally leaked.

“Spaceman” is the second worthy (”high-quality”) sample of the magic to emerge from a Killers and Stuart Price collaborative album. Much like Day & Age’s first single, “Human,” the new song finds itself between time, lost where the Hot Fuss and Sam’s Town eras meet.

If you thought “Human”’s lyrics were intriguingly confusing, you haven’t heard anything yet. Brandon Flowers takes you through some alien abuction/dissection.

It started with a low light
Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed
And then they took my blood type
They left a strange impression in my head
You know that I was hoping
That I could leave this star-crossed world behind
But when they cut me open
I guess I changed my mind (…)
The storm maker says it ain’t so bad
The dream maker’s gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, “Everybody look down
It’s all in your mind”

Well, now I’m back at home and
I’m looking forward to this life I live
You know it’s gonna haunt me
So hesitation to this life I give
You think you might cross over
You’re caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
You better look it over
Before you make that leap

Digest that. “Human” left me hungry for more, in a negative sort of way, but “Spaceman” keeps me completely satisfied yet, I’m dying to listen to the rest of the album. This is what the Killers are all about.

    AWESOME.

I’m seeing them live a week on Saturday and this has got me super hyped for their set. They’re one of those bands that aren’t any where near my favourite but I listen to them all the time. For the record, I liked Sam’s Town. And Sawdust. In fact I preferred them both to Hot Fuss.

  7. Vic

Killers classic band in a complete league of their own

  8. Downing

I really like it, it kinda reminds me of one of the new Kings of Leon tracks off their latest album at times.

    I like this a lot!
This album is shaping up to be v.good. Zane Lowe played a few clips of a few songs and they sounded pretty decent, although it’s hard to make judgements of little tiny clips.

    Really like this.
Not as instant as Human, but I absolutely adore the intro and this has got me so excited for the album!

GREAT SONG! GREAT LYRICS! the album version is very clear.

Hmmm… It sounds like the song features some really sub par vocals. I can’t say I’m in love with the melodies either

This song is fantastic… now we have to wait for Neon Tiger!

There’s another clip going around.. the song is called “A Dustland Fairytale” — the snippet is only a minute long though:

I LOVE this song, although I’m a bit perplexed why the studio version seems so stripped down. It’s almost like he wanted his voice to sound like it was being broadcast or beemed down so to speak. I think the live version of this song gives it much more justice, but that just makes me look forward to seeing the show in Denver!

Here’s a better version of Neon Tiger I found on youtube, its about halfway through right after spaceman, this was from their london show on the 2nd of Nov.

I’m a massive killers fan. And after hearing the live version of Spaceman (other than the SNL one) this version is disappointing… nowhere near as much grunt and raw energy as it could have had (based on what I’ve heard them do with it live). I’ll listen to the crap quality live version over this any day.

Why does the pic and the whole alien/space thing reminds me so much of Muse? but I do love ‘em both =)

Am I the only one who can hear strong influences of New Order , especially on the verses ? Great song. Not sure using a dance producer ( Stuart Price ) was a good idea on a guitar based track like this though , probably why the live version sounds better.

I think the problem with this version is the way he’s singing it. compared to the way he sang it at Foxwoods the vocals are pretty average, especially for a killers song
