Our boy Nicolas Jaar has remixed one of the best tracks off Cat Power’s fantastic new album, Sun. He’s taken the original’s New Wave-y guitar, boisterous drumming and perky piano and replace it with a lush, crescendoing backdrop that unexpectedly withholds all semblance of a climax. Instead of surrendering to his Darkside and ending it with one of his suspenseful, cathartic guitar phrases, he allows Cat Power’s meditations on love and death in the natural world––backed by rumbling steel drums, purposeful bass and what sounds like a symphony of dust––decide the course of the mix.
