Jamie Smith, head beatmaker for UK minimalists the xx, pays back LA-based “musical moderator” Nosaj Thing for his remix of the XX’s “Islands” with this spacey, dubsteppy reworking of “Fog.” It’s got the kind of chillwave redundancy – lots of arpeggiator and pitch-shifted vocals – that is easy to get lost in, but the stabbing synth wails toward the song’s second half make this a good soundtrack for a sci-fi battle or drunken rave. You know how those two things go hand in hand. Give the remix a listen / download:
Jamie xx’s “Fog” remix will appear on Drift Remixed, a self-explanatory reworking of Nosaj Thing’s 2009 album, out November 2.
