We have to admit we were a little nervous when we found out Brad Oberhofer, the 21-year-old Brooklyn-via-Tacoma pop alchemist who makes catchy, schizophrenic songs under his last name, was going to clean up his raw, home-recorded, super-lo-fi demos for his upcoming debut on Glassnote (I mean, why would you try to improve on perfection), but then we heard the first single from his upcoming Time Capsules II and we’re not worried anymore.
“HEART” is sweeping and grandiose in a mature, considered way we haven’t heard from Oberhofer before – it hangs on to his knack for simple, catchy melodies and lovelorn lyrics and introduces some haunting orchestral elements, and the final product is just as charming and sincere as ever. Time Capsules II (we’re not going to ask where Volume I is) is out on Glassnote March 27.
