“Wake And Be Fine,” the first single from Okkervil River‘s forthcoming I Am Very Far, is receiving a lot of coverage these days and rightfully so. Will Sheff and co premiered the boisterous rock ditty a few months ago on Jimmy Fallon alongside New Pornographers’ A.C. Newman and The Roots of course. They released it physically on 7” along other non-album cut “Mermaid,” and are now giving the track away for free on their website in exchange for your email.
Sheff’s vocals on “Wake And Be Fine” are certainly the highlight, blending well with the bluesy rock n roll, folksy rhythms, luxurious strings and prominent percussion. It’s a superb introduction to the upcoming LP, the band’s sixth in nearly a decade, but we’ll have to wait to hear the rest of it when it comes out via Jagjaguwar on May 10th.
