Yesterday morning, scary news that ’s debut album, Manners was being pushed back hit the Twitterverse. Later that afternoon, InSound reported that the album was indeed back on track and will be released on May 19th. Thank goodness!

Good Passion Pit news keeps on coming, today the band announced a remix contest for one of the tracks off Manners, “Little Secret.” The band is offering up snippets of the original track. No stems, just snippets — so this will challenge you to bring your best remix game. I challenge you PMA readers to enter this contest! Email me/comment with mediafire/zshare links to YOUR “Little Secret” Remix, and you WILL see it here.

(I strongly suggest you check out the comments section for downloads of the different stems and tips from other remixers)

Read on for the mp3 and the official message via DailyGrindBlog

Passion Pit is offering up snippets from “Little Secrets” right here, a full month before the track is available with the May 19th release of Manners. They want you to take those pieces and build your own songs around them. All you have to do is offer up your email address and you’ll be sent a stem snippet of the unreleased track. Trade with your fellow remixers and musicians until you have all the snippets, or just create a new composition around the one piece you have.

Hover over the shapes on the player to hear the snippets. Submit your info on the player, and when you receive your piece, get to work – the sky’s the limit, add synths, guitar, cowbell, more children’s choirs, your best Michael impression. Post the results here, where fans will vote for their ten favorites until May 15th. After voting closes, Passion Pit will pick five remixes to be released along with a special vinyl version of “Little Secrets,” while the five runners up will receive a copy of the vinyl and a signed CD of Manners. Official contest rules here.

Sweet! Here’s a two minute clip of “Little Secret” to mold into your remix.

Passion Pit – Little Secret

I’m expecting AMAZING REMIXES people!

Well, they sent me a 10 second clip of “synth chorus.” Lemme know if anyone wants it. It happens to be the clean version of the sound from the rightmost swoosh looking thing. Do I post the link or does that ruin the fun?

Reply

David~! April 23, 2009 at 5:45 pm

No it doesn’t ruin the fun! lol its 10 seconds, even if we loop it it isn’t much c’mon

Reply

Patrick April 23, 2009 at 6:11 pm

What I got was http://www.mxp4.com/passionpit/secret/zopier/synth_chorus.aif.zip

Sound like it could be looped. I tried poking around with the address to see if a file like “vocal_loop.aif.zip” etc existed, but I suspect the folder for each might be special.

Reply

Patrick April 23, 2009 at 6:15 pm

So, I suppose you could just enter lots of different email addresses to get them all, I also got http://www.mxp4.com/passionpit/secret/vnjkqm/bells.aif.zip

Reply

David~! April 23, 2009 at 6:18 pm

Good Idea, and thanks alot. I’ll see what I can do, I don’t have a piece but I would give it out if I had it

Reply

Ryan April 23, 2009 at 6:39 pm

I want to try this out even though I have no chance at winning. Everyone should just get a bunch of e-mails and download as many snippets as we can

these are the ones I have gotten

Look my computer isn’t working with the site, so sorry I can’t

Reply

David~! April 23, 2009 at 7:53 pm

Oh and is it only available as an AIFF? Audacity doesn’t work with those and I use Audacity. I’ve been ripping them but its rrly low quality

Reply

Luis Tovar April 23, 2009 at 8:06 pm

hmmm.. maybe you can convert aiff to mp3 or wav?

Reply

David~! April 23, 2009 at 8:08 pm

I can try…with what?

Reply

David~! April 23, 2009 at 8:17 pm

i was able to listen only after i changed the .aif to .zip manually while saving the file. hope that helps some.

I was thinking about just recording every sound. Somehow that seems less tedious to me than entering numerous emails. Let me know if anyone wants a zip of them. Sounds like it’ll be fun to remix this.

Also, pretty much any major music program nowadays can convert btwn aif and wav – if you’re desperate you can even use iTunes.

It’s not. it says on the real page to trade with your fellow musicians and remixers.

Ok I wanna Zip, before you make fun of me I made my email when I was like goddamn 8 and everyone allready knows it so I nvr got around to changing it, its homeworkhater5@yahoo.com shutup n dont make fun of me lol

Reply

Ryan Parker April 24, 2009 at 5:57 pm

No, that’s not all of them. There is 20 in total. I think there’s 15 above. So we’re missing five. Time to register more e-mails
I’ve registered about 15, I keep getting ones that I already have.

Reply

Ryan Parker April 24, 2009 at 5:58 pm

and there’s only 13 above my mistake.

Reply

David~! April 24, 2009 at 8:05 pm

OhMyGod, I nvr would have thoughtt it was so damn hard to get a free AIFF to MP3 coverter! All of the ones I got kept giving me error messages, so I began to think it was the file, until One of them converted the files but it only converted 30% and for the other 70% I had to pay, and I just tried by like using to simoltainious programs that didn’t work…

Reply

Ryan Parker April 24, 2009 at 8:21 pm

If you find one that works could you send me a link? acid pro is giving me an error when i try to open the parts

Reply

David April 24, 2009 at 10:37 pm

@David~!
If you put them into iTunes, you can create an MP3 version. From there you can use just about anything to put them into wav

Reply

David~! April 24, 2009 at 10:42 pm

So how would I do that? Sorry, I’m bad at this sh!t lol

Reply

David April 24, 2009 at 10:47 pm
David April 24, 2009 at 10:48 pm

Haha. So you right click, open with iTunes. Once it opens, you can right click and hit Create MP3 version. It’ll send it to wherever your iTunes sends ripped music and will be in Unknown Artist, Unknown Album

Reply

David~! April 25, 2009 at 1:25 pm

Downloading the zhare zip fine WAV as I type…I’ll let you all know

Reply

David~! April 25, 2009 at 1:31 pm

ok and David thanks alot but I did that but its like MPEG 4 and Audacity isn’t converting that either, but I guess MPEG 4 is alot easier to convert than AIFF? I didn’t get any “Create MP3 version” when I right clicked, only “Create AAC version” so thats what I did

Reply

David~! April 25, 2009 at 1:39 pm

Ok so David that ZIP had some problem can you please reupload? I would honestly kill for an MP3/Wav version of all this, please

Reply

Ryan Parker April 25, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Other David can you re-upload that or just the one I need? All I need from it is keys_verse though.

Reply

David~! April 25, 2009 at 2:21 pm

ok so I just did it another way, first do what david said “Haha. So you right click, open with iTunes. Once it opens, you can right click and hit Create MP3 version. It’ll send it to wherever your iTunes sends ripped music and will be in Unknown Artist, Unknown Album” for me it was create ACC but whatev then from there use the link below to change to MP3

The good news: it works. Bad news: Chops off the last second or so cuz I didn’t pay. I’m ok, Thru pitch correction and looping I’ve gotten most fixed but it chops off “complain” on the Bridge, so I had to Loop Friends and have it fade out, sounds weird.

anon April 26, 2009 at 1:06 am

whoa! so much effort! looks like a major pain in the ass without even having gotten to the all important remixing aspect of it….

ok If U ppl post the remaining 6 then I’ll zip all 20 as an MP3
