Denver’s Pictureplane caught me by surprise.
Back in late 2007, a track called “Flashion (You Designed My Mind)” hit the net. I didn’t pay much attention to it, though I did find it enjoyable. After that, I completely forgot about Pictureplane, that is, until I saw Pitchfork’s track review for “Goth Star.”
“Goth Star,” an early cut from Pictureplane’s debut record Dark Rift, samples the eternal Fleetwood Mac (“Steven Wonders”), though you would be pressed to know it at first. Though the vocal sample is completely tweaked-out and unrecognizable, the massive, shimmering, ferocious mess surrounding it keeps the track mind-bending and blood-tingling.

Perfect. As soon as I heard the first sample clip peak through, I watched the hairs on my arms stand straight up. Thank you.
