Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! You know I had to join in on the cheese and pull this week’s early with a Valentine’s Day-themed episode!  Hopefully some of you enjoy it enough to listen to it with someone special tonight. Just maybe.

Because I assume that 99.9% of the movie-going population will be watching some sort of chick flick (I’m not ashamed to admit that I liked He’s Just No That Into You, and will probably watch Confessions of a Shopoholic tonight), I wanted to structure this playlist like 99.9% of the chick flicks out there. So I’ve come up with a story that I hope would play out well in songs. Or maybe you want to see this as a hopeful soundtrack to some V-Day movie coming out in 2010. Either way, here it is…

First you start out with the initial infatuation and excitement –I don’t know what you do/But you do it well/I’m under your spell. I chose to go with ’s “Mercy.” I can’t think of a better song to start a Valentine’s Day playlist with.

Then there’s the that awkward middle ground between infatuation and love, and you just don’t know what the hell is going on: I’m too proud, for love/But with eyes shut/It’s you I’m thinking of/But how we move from A to B it can’t be up to me/Cause I don’t know, but you know one thing for sure: I will never ever be the first/To say it. I think Lykke Li was feeling the exact same thing when she wrote “Little Bit.” Cause I would give anything/Anything/To have you as my man.

After the confusion, someone finally grows a pair and confesses their love. This made me think of ’s “Make You Feel My Love” — I know you/Haven’t made/Your mind up yet/But I would never/Do you wrong/I’ve known it/From the moment/That we met/No doubt in my mind/Where you belong. Followed by that longing depicted in ’s “Black and Gold,” sung by ’cause if you’re not really here/then i don’t want to be either/i wanna be/next to you/black and gold/black and gold/black and gold.

The next two songs have been Valentine’s Day staples for years now: ’s “Yellow” and ’s “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.” Following these in-it-till-the-end songs is the prolific “All I Need.” One of the more intense love-songs has ever performed: I am the next act waiting in the wings/I am an animal trapped in your hot car/I am all the days that you choose to ignore/You are all I need/You are all I need.

Next comes some sort of big fight right? There needs to be some sort of drama in every chick flick. Cue ’ best Don’t-Let-Go-of-Us song “My List.” Let me wrap myself around you/Let you show me how I see/And when you come back in from nowhere/Do you ever think of me?/Your heart is not able/Let me show you how much I careI got nothing on you baby/But I always said I try/Let me show you how much I careDon’t give the ghost up just clench your fist/You should have known by now you were on my list.

But of course, even Brandon Flowers’ sweet singing won’t save our poor guy. He needs some . I tried to find a string of lyrics to quote from “Crown of Love,” but every word in that song is vital to our story. So just go here to read all of the lyrics.

That seems to be it for our fictional lovers. Cue the cheesy “5 years later” ending. Traveling north, traveling north to find you/Train wheels beating, the wind in my eyesIt’s so many miles and so long since I’ve met you/Don’t even know what I’ll find when I get to you/But suddenly now, I know where I belong/It’s many hundred miles and it won’t be long.

What happens next? I guess you’ll have to find out V-Day 2k10.

Good playlist. You’re right, it does remind me of some sort of chick flick soundtrack.. I mean it would, but the music is too good for that.

Pretty awesome, especially “Train Song.” Have you heard the original?

I am a little ashamed at “Yellow”s inclusion, though.
