Make sure to download the newest episode of the pmaCAST: Looking Better, Shining Brighter Than You Do, featuring Four Tet, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The xx, Yeasayer, Department of Eagles, Hot Chip and more.

Here’s to a new blog feature! I get emails almost daily with people asking this very question, “How do you rip music from Myspace or other music streaming sites?”. Keep sending emails with your questions and PMA might actually come up with a guide!Ever found a cool new track on myspace or another site and, to your dismaym couldn’t download it because the “owner” didn’t allow it, so you had to return to that website just to listen to that song? I’m sure we all have. With this fairly simple guide, you can rip songs till your heart (or hard drive) burts with joy (or over load, whatever).
Read the instructions carefully!
1. First download free Audacity recording software here . Follow the instructions on how to install.
2. Open Audacity. Click on the drop down option “Stereo Mix“
3. Next just open the MySpace artist page which you wish to record from. Get ready to click on the play button for the song of your choice.
4. Click on the record button on Audacity. Then quickly click on the play button on the Myspace player. Because of this split second “lag time” you would later have to trim your final recording.
5. Once the song in the MySpace player stops, click on the stop button on Audacity .
6. Next you would need to trim the beginning and the end of the song. Simply drag and click on the beginning section all the way up to where the song starts. Go to Edit and click delete. Repeat the same procedure for the end.
7. Before you can save the song and export it in .mp3 format you would have to download the LAME MP3 encoding driver for Audacity to use. You can get it free here . Please note that the lame_enc.dll file is zipped so you would have to extract the file (Read here if you don’t know how to unzip).
8. Once you’ve extracted the lame_enc.dll file, save it under C:\WINDOWS\system.
9. Go back to Audacity. Click on the ” File…Export as .MP3 “ You should be able to save it as .mp3 format now. If Audacity prompts you for the lame_enc.dll file, just direct it back to where you’ve saved it earlier which is in C:\WINDOWS\system.
Happy recording! Leave a comment below and show your gratitude! SHOW IT!

That’s a nice guide , but i believe there are some web-based tools that can rip mp3 from myspaces quite easily, without all this fuss
I believe your right, but if I just TOLD people that, I wouldnt be able to write this guide, which happens to be a major Google Search Keyword. Haha.
true
)
Or.. You can just download Replay Media Catcher
i’ve had audacity for a while (it’s awesome!!) but i have never seen any option called stereo mix.. where exactly do you find it?
“Stereo Mix” can be found on the Audacity mixer toolbar, although it may be called “Wave Out” (Name depends on you computer’s sound driver)
sweet thanks man
oh following up with my Replay Media Catcher comment, it records MP3s at like the lowest bitrate i have EVER seen. It’s something like 96kbps.
So if you’re planning on putting it on OiNK or something you’re going to need something much higher.
But if you’re just going put stuff on your iPod or Zune or whatever it’s fine.
Link for this Replay Media Catcher
Very well done, a little hard to follow, but overall easy to understand. Thanks for posting this! Now I can get any song on Myspace! Tee hee hee…
Also, would you know how to make the audio a bit louder?
Thanks for everything! Chii~!
well i was able to record the song i wanted but its in mono…anyway to make it stereo?
wow thanks alot for this writeup
very helpful
Awesome! I found this song I wanted so bad and I couldn’t find any ripping program that would work for the site. This was the perfect work around. Thanks so much.
your write up is retarded, there is nowhere on the version you linked to select stereo mix or wave. total waste of time
thanks for that!
pretty much amazing indeed =) hhehe
its not ripping its recording off the sound card = crap quality
i simply adore you
thanks mate. i’m stylin now
I have Audacity for Mac and I can’t get a Myspace rip to work. The problem is the only source I have in “Internal Microphone” which records from the microphone instead of the sound card. I need to be able to record directly without outside sounds interfering. How do I change this setting?
I love you
