Pretty Much Amazing Presents: The Courteeners mp3

The indie world is abuzz (this time its not Radiohead). The Courteeners are being name checked by everyone from NME to Radio 1 as “the future sound of Manchester” and “the next Liam Gallagher.” At their best the Manchester lads channel The Liberntines and the jerky pop of the Arctic Monkeys.

All bodes well for the Manchester set, their infectious tune will certainly have hipsters up and down indie dancefloors across the country, gyrating to its perky, jangling pop guitars in no time. But in terms of conveying ground-breaking and revolutionary sparking sounds, it quite doesn’t shine up with the Dohertys and Gallaghers of our time.

We still have their whole (unreleased) album to explore.

No idea where they came from or when they got so popular there selling out Manchester Academy 2, but there my new favourite.

If I had heard this band before I’d ever heard of the Libertines, I would most probably love them. They seem cheerful enough, but as they are nothing more than a poor man’s Libertines, I despise them. In fact, they are so poor they asked me for any ’spare change’ as I left the Academy 2 gig before the encore.
