Pretty Much Amazings Best Covers of 2008 music mp3 feature covers

I couldn’t do the whole “Best of 2008″ party without including some of my favorite covers, especially since 2008 was such an awesome year for cover-heads. I have featured all of these covers on Pretty Much Amazing before, you if you’re an avid reader, you might already have them. If you saw them on the blog and DIDN’T download them: shame on you, butthead, these are the cream of the crop and my absolute favorite covers of 2008. Without further adieu, here are my favorite covers of 2008 (in no particular order)

Katy Perry – Electric Feel (MGMT Cover)

I wanted to start out with Katy Perry doing “Electric Feel” because I just know people are going to give me shit for it. OMG how can you like that “I Kissed a Girl” chick singing MGMT?! Because she’s f*****g good at it!

Vampire Weekend – Everywhere (Fleetwood Mac Cover)

This Is Ivy League – Crown of Love (Arcade Fire Cover)

Technically the London Bridges EP was released in August of 2006, I had only found this lost b-side in April of 2008. I’ve been enjoying it since!

Timid Tiger – Womanizer (Britney Spears Cover)

With competition from the likes of Lily Allen, Ladyhawke, and the All-American Rejects, Timid Tiger should be proud of themselves — they’re the only “Womanizer” cover band on this list.

Hot Chip & Peter Gabriel – Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa (Vampire Weekend Cover)

Friendly Fires – I’m Good, I’m Gone (Lykke Li Cover)

Max Vernon – I Kissed A Girl (Katy Perry Cover)

of Montreal & MGMT – Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana Cover)

Natasha Bedingfield – Ray Of Light (Madonna Cover)

The vocal delivery on this cover is outrageous. Madonna disguises the strain and difficulty of “Ray of Light” really well, but Natasha Beddingfield strips it down without losing the impact-factor.

Gnarls Barkley – Reckoner (Radiohead Cover)

Mystery Jets – Bleeding Love (Leona Lewis Cover)

The Kooks – Kids (MGMT Cover)

The Last Shadow Puppets – S.O.S. (Rihanna Cover)

Prince – Creep (Radiohead Cover)

The mp3 may not show it, but if you had been there, you’d understand why this cover is one of my favorites of the year.

Great list. I figured most of these would be on it. Surprised with Katy Perry, Gnarls Barkley, The Last Shadow Puppets, and Timid Tiger though.

Though, those covers only made the list better!

A nice zip file at the end of this post would have been nice… but aside from that: perfection!

yeah, i was debating about putting that one up, but i decided it wasn’t really a FAVORITE… it was more just amusing, but something i’d ultimately get tired of after a few listens.

I particularly liked the Kooks take on MGMT, that was pretty cool. But, there are a couple I haven’t checked out yet so that could all change!

Oh, and happy new year PMA – you rawk! \o/

Cover of Rihanna’s S.O.S. bu LSP is just perfect. Katty Perry surprised me, in a positive way.

Craig Daitch (of the jains) did a cover of Fake Plastic Trees that blew everyone away who saw it on Youtube. His macbook blew up during the cover but it still fucking rocked:
