MP3: New Princeton – “Florida”

LA’s finest fake Ivy Leaguers Princeton are back with a new record, Remembrance of Things to Come, and now they’ve delivered a second single (we’ve already heard the title track – revisit below), the typically chilly, minimalist “Florida,” for your listening pleasure.

Like Princeton’s best work, “Florida” builds itself up around relatively simple, interwoven instrumentals – mostly delicate synths, but there’s no denying those occasional orchestral bursts – to allow frontman Jesse Kivel’s deft, intimate vocals and lucid lyrics to cut through. The whole thing sounds intentionally, breathily delicate, but at the same time the band’s virtuosity makes it too tightly interwoven to fall apart. Remembrance of Things Past is out February 21.
