Let me try to get the Austin trio Pure X’s general vibe across to you – you’re driving late at night through a post-apocalyptic wasteland, westerly, toward the obvious symbol for your uncertain future. It’s beautiful and horrifying. You’re running out of gas and in the passenger’s seat asleep is your high school crush who has sort of become your lover but only out of convenience and necessity. You have just left a city that is burning. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here; I’ll leave you to discern the rest of the story for yourself while you listen to the band’s excellent new single “Things In My Head,” a sexy-creepy late-night slow-burner of a song. Their new record Crawling Up the Stairs is out May 14. Grab an mp3 here.
