Buzzy UK lo-fi four-piece the Vaccines have dropped another melodic, anthemic jam, half of recently released debut 7” “Wreckin Bar / Blow It Up.” This, of course, is b-side “Blow It Up.” It’s like a fuzzed-out, simplified Arcade Fire – chimy guitars back-and-forth over cymbal-heavy drums, one-chord piano, and wandering bass. It’s easy to hear why this band have been getting lots of hype overseas – “Blow It Up” has a shout-along-able chorus and danceable riffs, it’s super catchy, it’s got that brash lo-fi sensibility but it’s refined too, getting to the edge but never quite losing control.
