Remix-A-Day: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero (MSTRKRFT Remix)

Click on the turntable on the left to listen to a continuous stream of music featured on Pretty Much Amazing - updated every day. For more, you can check out the Best Songs of 2012.

Because we are focusing more on upcoming musical releases around here, new remixes get the short end of the PMA stick, sadly. I am determined to devote one post a day on new remixes, instead of bunching 10+ remixes in bulk. That has become somewhat tacky. Click here to read all of our remixes.

This song is not yet cleared for download, but you can stream it below, thanks to IMEEM and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Earlier today we reviewed MSTRKRFT’s album, Fist of God, and gave it a middle-of-the-road 5 and a half bulb rating. Needless to say, we weren’t very impressed with the new album. The sticky trend continues with their remix of the YYYs’ new single, “Zero” (as if it needs more hype). Sadly, MSTRKRFT keep marketing themselves as the poor man’s Justice. It’s definitely not a good look for the Canadian duo. Hopefully they will shake it off with their future material.

I’ll be up front. I didn’t like this remix much — mostly for the reasons written above, but also because I hear that Animal Collective remixed the same song. Sorry MSTRKRFT, but you just don’t measure up. But before you flick this remix away, take a listen and decide if it you like it

That was something wasn’t it? Were you even listening? Or were you still freaking out about Animal Collective remixing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? I’m just as hyped to hear that remix as you are — but we’ll just have to wait until it’s available. The remix is a b-side on the limited edition “Zero” 7″. You can pre-order the single @ Insound (who don’t want to give me this as a freebie!). If you’re wondering what it will sound like… this might give you an idea.

Some dude that goes by the moniker Radioface mashed up Animal Collective’s “My Girls” with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Y Control” a few weeks back. It’s sort of a hot mess. I actually hope the “Zero” remix sounds nothing like this.

A remix a day lets the spin doctors play…So post mine!! lol my Prom Queen remix is pretty good, and the fact that you`ll devote an entire post to two songs you openly admit you hate makes me feel that its a little unfair that just because their well known they get mentioned. Whatev, not trying to rant or telling you to only post music you like

Luis are you even serious. “Sadly, MSTRKRFT keep marketing themselves as the poor man’s Justice. It’s definitely not a good look for the Canadian duo. Hopefully they will shake it off with their future material.

I’ve been a faithful PMA reader for SEVERAL months now, and I’ve found that lately I’m just not liking the way that you present the site. It was perfect before you added the rating systems, and started critiquing basically every song you post so negatively. I mean what’s the point of posting a song on your blog if you’re going to rate it “Two out of ten lightbulbs.” Not to mention giving tons of bands that deserve appreciation negative promotion. Sure you’re entitled to your opinion, but it has come off as a bit elitist as of late.

MSTRKRFT needs to get the eff out of pro tools, despite all these photos of them tweaking on vintage synths, their new tracks just sound like something you could arpeggiate in 5 seconds on some soft synth you got on bittorrent

Luis i totally agree with the “poor man’s Justice” remark, did anyone hear that Kimmel performance? Justice has the image, the live theatrics, a defined musical style (which took far longer to bore me than mstrkrft’s) and have an army of fans awaiting a second album

please, no more rock guys gone club, we need more rock guys gone AMAZING because they bought a computer

tired of disco, tired of remixes (the 90′s were remix laden also, they are going the way of autotune)
