‘R.I.P. Paper Planes’ – Yeah Right, Diplo.

R.I.P. Paper Planes Yeah Right, Diplo. listen

Over at Mad Decent, Diplo had this to say about a new “Paper Planes” copycat remix:

La Fonda – Paperplanes <—- Gross
It had a really good run, but it’s over now.

M.I.A. – Paper Planes (La Fonda remix)

Yes, this remix IS completely horrible and should have never been recorded, but I doubt “Paper Planes” is going anywhere. It’s still hot on iTunes — it’s currently sitting at #14 and it’s still in the Top 10 in the US. If this Jigga and M.I.A. joint (“Boys (remix)”) ever hits radio the way “Paper Planes” has, we’re going to listening to M.I.A. clear through 2009.

All this mainstream success has brought M.I.A. out of retirement; she is prepping to do a cheapo re-release of her sophomore album Kala fully-equipped with some high rolling bonus tracks.

But what can we expect from LP number three? More rappers? Of course. What about high profile rappers? I’m afraid so. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing — listen to this:

M.I.A. – Boyz (Jay-Z Remix)

Not bad right? I just hope not every track on LP3 will sound like that Timbaland collaboration.

I don’t think her new album will be hiphop trash, she’s talked about doing a sort of Blur thing I think, has mentioned she’d like to do something like the Last Shadow Puppets, and said she recorded a “pretty” song called Live In Love In Pain w/ Diplo & Switch. Hip-hop songs generally aren’t pretty imo.

That Boys remix is suppose to be on Jigga’s new cd in December. Siiick

It took her two albums and a long wait, but M.I.A. has officially been discovered and cherished by the Hip-Hop community.

    Retirement, my ass.

Any new albums will be hiphop trash for sure.

he resurgence of M.I.A.’s Kala album, which is two years old, is crazy. That album has been in the rotation for so long, and then all of the sudden the hip hop world finds it. It would be like the rock community just discovering Late Registration and Gold Digger becoming one of the top songs in the country.

    Still hot though!
